This post comes from Eleanor and Josephine, Girl Scout Troop 42013 — Thank you, Elanor and Josephine, for your contribution to the Wallyhood blog and the Wallingford community! Two New Signs at Meridian Playground Have you seen the two newly installed signs at Meridian Playground? They are two mosaics created by a couple of local Girl Scouts, (us!), Eleanor and Josephine, earning our Silver Award. The Silver Award is the second highest award a Girl Scout can earn. We worked with Seattle Mosaic Arts to design and create the signs. One of our signs shows the entrance to the Tilth…
Trends in Wallingford Crime

Wallingford has been in the news lately, and not in a good way. There was a recent child endangerment incident, the tragic house fire and family deaths, a Medic One vehicle whose windshield was smashed on 45th with a rock while on a response, and the murder of a tent camper along NE 40th. Earlier in the year, there was a startling home invasion in which the residents were thankfully unharmed. This past weekend I watched the evening news and saw a local reporter standing a few houses down on my street doing a story on rampant …
Former Canlis Executive Sous Chef Launches Atoma in Wallingford

Wallyhood heard from Sarah and Johhny Courtney, long-time Fremont residents who were exuberant to share the news of taking up their culinary residence right here in Wallingford!
Atoma, the highly anticipated contemporary, informal fine-dining restaurant led by former Canlis Executive Sous Chef Johnny Courtney, is proud to announce the upcoming grand opening of its permanent location in Seattle’s vibrant Wallingford neighborhood this fall.
Located at 1411 N 45th Street, Atoma’s new space inherits the legacy of the beloved former Tilth location—a pioneering Seattle establishment that achieved acclaim for its organic Pacific Northwest cuisine and dedication to supporting local farmers. As …
The end of Wallyhood?

Have you ever thought of writing a post for the Wallyhood blog? Or, maybe you have had an idea and wanted to get the word out to the community? Or, perhaps you have questions about strange happenings in the neighborhood that you’d like to see investigated?
Why are we asking these questions?
We editors feel we are at a critical juncture and are debating if the blog should continue. If you glance over the past several months of stories, you will see that the vast majority of stories have been written by a very small number of writers – primarily …
Making Parody Great Again

Roy Zimmerman will be in concert at the Wallingford United Methodist Church this coming Sunday evening (September 24) at 7 pm. WUMC is located at N 42nd St and Bagley Ave N. Donations at the door. Last year his concert in Wallingford was a sell out, so circle your calendar and get there early.
Roy Zimmerman is a folk singer who specializes in satirical songs. The hilarity is definitely pointed at the right so be warned if that would irritate you. Otherwise it is infectious and will have you in a giggle fit. If you’d like a taste of Roy, …
Big Mario’s is Open for Business

Coming a bit later than their expected “mid to late March” opening, Big Mario’s newest location on Northlake Way had its grand opening on August 30. With a nod to the previous occupant, who’d been serving loaded pies for 65 years, the pizza joint’s signage officially reads “Big Mario’s Northlake Tavern.” Nice.
On a recent Thursday evening, which coincided with the opening game of the NFL season, my dining companion and I walked into a surrounding that felt very familiar. The general layout and much of the decor is the same (or very similar) to that of the Northlake Tavern, …
