It is nearly Thanksgiving, the holiday that has sadly become something of a footnote as Black Friday Eve. But many people still maintain the old traditions of gathering with family and friends to enjoy an abundance of food and polarizing discourse. It used to be, that if you realized that you were one brussels sprout short of a side dish; or desperately needed another couple bottles of wine to make it through dinner with Uncle Bob; or required bandages and tourniquets to stem the bleeding from that knife-related prep mishap in the kitchen—you were out of luck, as most stores …
It’s here again: Giving Tuesday in Wallingford

Giving Tuesday is an annual celebration of our non-profit service organizations and a time to encourage you to donate to support them. This year it is on November 28, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is said that non-profits receive 80% of their annual contributions between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so now is the time when they desperately need you to join in and get them set up for another year of service. Giving Tuesday is a great day to spend a few minutes getting your annual giving done.
Eight organizations active in Wallingford are participating in Giving Tuesday. If you would …

Small Business Highlight: JAS Corner Store

There’s a house on lower Wallingford Avenue that I’ve often admired. It was beautifully restored by JAS Design Build, whose office is across the street. JAS does excellent work restoring and rethinking old houses and I think we are fortunate to have them in the neighborhood.
I just found out that last December JAS quietly opened an adjacent corner store which is a charming extension of their impeccable aesthetic. It’s a little off the beaten path, about one block south of Union Saloon and across the street. I didn’t even realize it was there, and I’m guessing I’m not the …

Clue and Other November Arts Events at LHS

Clue: High School Edition
This November, Theatre Arts at Lincoln High School will be presenting Clue: High School Edition, written by Sandy Rustin and based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn. Broadwaylicensing.com describes it this way:
Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth – the butler, Miss …
