Coming a bit later than their expected “mid to late March” opening, Big Mario’s newest location on Northlake Way had its grand opening on August 30. Friends of Meridian Playground (FOMP) will host a “Bandstand Bash” Tuesday afternoon, September 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the covered picnic shelter (also called the Summer House). Meridian Playground is located just southeast of N 50th St and Meridian Ave N. I was on my way back from Fred Meyer and found NE 40th blocked at Latona by police vehicles…never a good sign. Upon walking down to see what was going on, one of the police officers recognized me: “Hey, you’re the guy from…Wallyworld.” We had interacted at a vacant home fire over on 5th NE a while back. The Wallingford Local radio program, produced through a joint effort of Historic Wallingford, the farmers market and SPACE 101 FM, has been airing on the last Wednesday of each month live from our farmers market since May.
