Those of you who use the light rail out of the U District or UW stations to travel north or south should prepare for a month of disruptions and curtailed service. Didn’t this just happen last summer? some might ask. Why yes, a disembodied digital voice might answer. But now, according to the Times, Sound Transit workers will be correcting a 1/8” gap between light rail wheels and track width along a 500’ span of track in the heart of the currently modest system (Seattle has a long tradition of poor transit track planning, as some will recall that the …
Fremont Community School Open House POSTPONED one week

Snow! Just that word is enough to send waves of ecstatic joy to children, worry to working parents, and panic to those who must drive in Seattle snow. It’s not that we can’t drive in snow, it’s simply that we are a city full of roads with unplowed hills and very narrow side streets. (Check out the delightful YouTube clip of a compilation of cars out of control during a snow event in Seattle.) Combine the forecast of snow with our complete inability to actually predict if the snow event will really happen, due to our crazy convergence zones, and …

Happy New Year, Wallingfordians! There hasn’t been a lot of love heaped on the USPS since that DeJoy fellow took over during the Dark Times. And I know from personal experience that mail delivery around here can be an adventure, if it happens at all. But our neighbor Mary posted this really lovely tribute to her longtime mail carrier over on Facebook, and I asked her if we could post it here as well. It’s a reminder, for an upcoming year that is sure to try the patience and good will in all of us, that there are dedicated and …
How hard is it to open a small business in Wallingford?

Apparently, pretty challenging, according to Yalcin Ataman, owner of Fainting Goat Gelato. Since 2009, Fainting Goat occupied a spot in the retail building on the south side of N. 45th St and Burke Ave. But when the building was slated for demolition in 2022, Fainting Goat had to find a new home. They managed to secure a new space in Wallingford and open a new location in Fremont.
So, where’s the trouble? Ataman has had a lease for a new space between Kokkaku and Taco Time on 45th (Formerly home to Trent’s on 45th) since May of 2023. But, has …
