Happy New Year, Wallingfordians! There hasn’t been a lot of love heaped on the USPS since that DeJoy fellow took over during the Dark Times. And I know from personal experience that mail delivery around here can be an adventure, if it happens at all. But our neighbor Mary posted this really lovely tribute to her longtime mail carrier over on Facebook, and I asked her if we could post it here as well. It’s a reminder, for an upcoming year that is sure to try the patience and good will in all of us, that there are dedicated and …
How hard is it to open a small business in Wallingford?
Apparently, pretty challenging, according to Yalcin Ataman, owner of Fainting Goat Gelato. Since 2009, Fainting Goat occupied a spot in the retail building on the south side of N. 45th St and Burke Ave. But when the building was slated for demolition in 2022, Fainting Goat had to find a new home. They managed to secure a new space in Wallingford and open a new location in Fremont. If you’re also planning to open a new retail shop, look for a supplier of high-quality shop supplies that you can use and install in your retail shop. You should also determine …
Julia’s Closes after 42 Years in Wallingford
HELP SAY GOODBYE TO 2023 AND TO THIS WALLINGFORD GEM
For over 40 years Julia’s has been serving brunch in the Wallingford neighborhood, and tomorrow, the last service will run, leaving an egg-shaped void in our collective hearts and stomachs. Some of you may have bid farewell by attending the yacht rock brunch hosted in mid-December, but for others, tomorrow is the last chance to stop by the corner of Wallingford Ave and 44th Street, and enjoy the charm of this neighborhood favorite.
Since the days of sending a shot back to the kitchen are behind us, as a final …

Cup ‘o Joe under the radar
If you find yourself in need of a quick and easy pick me up, in the form of quality but inexpensive, drip coffee during that weird purgatory between Christmas and New Year’s, stop on by TNT Taqueria. Yup, the taco restaurant on 45th between Meridian and Bagley with a small indoor seating area and walk-up window. They sell a “medium” size cup of Cafe Ladro coffee for $1.66* after tax (what?!?). It’ll be sure to get you through the new year. May as well get another cup on your way to your polar bear swim too 😉
*Price as of …
Brightening a cold and drizzly morning with Doce Donuts
After what seemed like an eternity of schedule conflicts, a window in my morning schedule finally opened up, and I couldn’t wait to rush over to Doce Donut Co to try their newest seasonal flavors.
I’ve been a follower and huge fan of this place since they opened over the summer and am well aware of the high demand. If you don’t get their early enough, you may very well miss out. Sometimes they completely sell out by 11am. I know better now to act fast.
Doce is currently featuring two new limited-time flavors: Matcha Tiramisu and Coquito Eggnog Rum …
