Quite a number of Seattle Public Library branches will have their hours shortened for the next couple of months. Our neighborhood branch will be closed Fridays and Saturdays through June 4. I’m not sure when these closures began, but they’re recent. Hopefully, you didn’t show up last Friday or Saturday to find the doors locked.

Staffing is one of the issues causing the closures. According to the SPL blog:

You’re likely not hearing it here first, but this news bears repeating: There’s a very good chance that Wallingford icon, Murphy’s Pub, could soon close.

The property at 45th and Meridian containing Murphy’s, Kostas Opa, Rugs of the World, and the old Fat Cat Records building will soon be put up for sale. A new developer would likely demolish the existing structures and build up to 150 residential units.

Here come the bands, the drill teams, and cute kids in costume and much more! Summer is fast approaching and soon a long time Wallingford tradition will be here. The Wallingford Parade, a Seafair event, will be held on Saturday, July 13th starting at 11 a.m. and will start at N. 45th and Bagley, head west to Interlake, then south. This event harks to the beginning of Seafair in the early 1950s and is now in its 7th decade. The theme for 2024 is “Be a Hero” offering lots of inspiration for dressing up.

While not technically in our neighborhood, the Freeway Estates Community Orchard (FECO) at 6030 6th Ave NE  is not far away – just east of Green Lake, alongside the west edge of I-5 and just south of Ravenna Boulevard. FECO was started in 2010 by a group of determined area volunteers when the plot was just grass and invasive plants.
