It’s been such a pleasure to see the neighborhood rally around our local food bank and family resource center, FamilyWorks. So far, 24 of you have joined in the giving campaign towards FamilyWorks, and we’ve reached $4,455, blowing past our goal of  $3,000. That means that the three donors (and yes, we got our third $1,000 match from another anonymous Wallingford neighbor) will be matching the first $3,000 of our campaign, for a total of $7,455 going to FamilyWorks.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could keep stretching that up to, dare I dream, $10,000?

It appeared to be a Caucasian woman late twenties with lots of black eyeliner, black hoodie, and rhinestones on her jeans. There was a fellow who waited for her who was tall with a white baseball cap. They didn’t succeed with their ploy with us!

A few small bits of note:

The SeaMonster has finally opened into its expanded location, now filling both its original space and that previously occupied by its erstwhile neighbor, La Boulangerie. Sounds like things dragged a bit due to permitting and such, but they’re over the hump, and rocking the 45th Street core. Congrats!

Second, I noticed that the long awaited (or dreaded, depending on your outlook) CVS at the corner of 45th and Meridian is getting close to opening their doors. There are shelves with stuff on them, and banks of flickering flourescents lighting the space. It won’t be …

The Annual Green Lake Pathway of Lights is coming up this Saturday, December 12th from 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm. While it’s likely to be cold and rainy (Seattle!) that’s just reason to bundle up and enjoy the stroll around the lake through the luminaria.

There will be bands playing at the Aqua Theater, Arch, Bathhouse and Community Center throughout. Several organizations, including FamilyWorks, will have food drive drop off spots ,as well.

If you live in east Wallingford, you probably heard all whole lot of sirens on Sunday. As we later learned, that was a dozen police officers chasing a carjacker in a high speed chase through Seattle, exchanging gunfire as they went.

The Seattle Police Department has put dashcam video of the chase online, and it opens in lower Wallingford.

Given the alarming incident in lower Wallingford, it’s no surprise that residents are now more concerned than ever about their safety on the roads. With incidents like these becoming unfortunately common, investing in reliable car accessories has never been more crucial.…

We’ve survived “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” so, in the real spirit of giving and sharing, WCSC invites to you join us for a community pot luck supper and sharing bazaar!

The idea is for our community to come together, celebrate and share their abundance rather than spending so much time and money at the mall. (Roughly based on BuyNothingProject.org but expanded beyond closed Facebook groups.)

Last week, we kicked off a fundraising drive for the Wallingford-based food bank and family resource center FamilyWorks. When I talked to Joey over at FamilyWorks, I wasn’t quite sure where to set the goal. After some hemming and hawing, I nervously set it at $3,000.

It just warms my cockles to see that after just one week, and with another month to go, we’re less than $300 away from hitting it!
