At about 8:15 PM, we heard a huge boom followed by several flashes (isn’t it supposed to be the other way around?) here in east Wallingford near the John Stanford School, at which point the lights went out. Latona Ave between 42nd and 45th has been blocked off by the fire department. The fireman there says a main power line is down at 43rd and Latona, and they’re waiting for City Light to come fix it.

Good morning, Wallingford! As of this morning, central Wallingford once again has a bakery. Damsel & Hopper (4405 Wallingford Ave N, next to Julia’s, where Tigerly Ox once served) has their grand opening today, Friday Sept 8th from 7:30 am to 4:00 PM and then again tomorrow from  8:00 AM  to 1:00 PM. This fills a hole left by the slow, sad decline and fall of La Boulangerie (and also fills a hole in my belly.)

On the heels of Wallyburger joining the 45th Street lineup, Wallingford will soon be home to another burger joint, Portland-based Little Big Burger. Their menu is spare, offering little more than burgers, fries, rootbeer floats and beer, but the fries are truffle and the burgers are Portland:

1/4 lb. of cascade natural beef, brioche buns, local cheeses, fresh veggies and camden’s catsup! everything is delivered fresh daily, and cooked to order in an open kitchen.

The long-awaited opening of Seattle Pops (1401 N 45TH St) has popped!

My son is dairy-free, so when other kids hit the ice cream, he hits the popsicles. And as a family, we eschew artificial dyes and corn syrup fairly religiously, so even a good popsicle can be hard to find.
