Following up after last weekend’s Wallingford Community Council meeting, Wallingford Educates Wallingford (more on that in a later post), some West Wallingford/East Fremont neighbors are holding a meeting tonight, Jan 10th, from 6:30-9 at the Staybridge Suites on Aurora. Here’s the agenda:
No doubt many of you also attended WCC’s “Wallingford Educates Wallingford” meeting. WCC talked about its possible response to the City’s re-zoning plan. Our January 10 meeting will focus on giving East Fremont/West Wallingford residents a chance to: 1. learn more about what WCC might propose (like removing all single family areas from the urban village), 2. discuss…Crossing Guard Crossing

Wallyhood reader and neighbor Anne tipped us off to the following need in our community:
For several years, Mel helped children cross 40th street on their way to and from John Stanford International School every morning and afternoon. He was an dedicated and friendly presence in the neighborhood. He was there—rain or shine—with a huge smile and a warm greeting for all who passed by. This year, Mel accepted a crossing guard position at an elementary school in his neighborhood. He is greatly missed, not only by the children who remember him for handing out pencils on the first day…Vote, then celebrate!

One way or another, the long and painful election is over on Tuesday night. Yay! Make sure to get your ballots in the mail by Monday so your voice can be heard.
If you waited till the last minute to fill out your ballot and worry about whether it will make it on time, you can drop it off in one of the ballot drop boxes, no stamp required. The closest ones to Wallingford are at the Green Lake Community Center and the Ballard Library. A map of these and other locations can be found on the King County Elections …
Got Leftover Halloween Candy?

Last year, I had so many trick-or-treaters, I ran out of candy early in the evening. I was forced to scrounge up random sweets to give out (sorry about the raisins, kids!). This year, I swore to be prepared, but since the weather was so nasty I wound up with a ton of leftover candy.
Luckily for my family, Greenlake Kids Dentistry is having a candy buyback event on November 3rd from 5-7 p.m. Kids from age 0 to 12 will receive $1 per pound for unopened candy, with all candy donations going to Operation Gratitude.

Nationwide creepy clown epidemic hits close to home

A neighbor, writing on the Wallingford/Fremont Community Facebook page, posted the following:
During our walk around Green Lake tonight saw one of these scary clowns. I am not okay with it and don’t get it. Just a heads up if you are taking your kids in the next few days – had blood all over and some kind of choking device around his neck.
Much has been written about the unexplained rash of creepy clown sightings all over the country and in our area, but this is the first time I’ve heard of one close by.

Bedrooms and More parking garage vandalized

Krystal, the office manager of Bedrooms and More, alerted us to a crime that happened in their parking garage on Friday, August 19th.
When watching the video, the vandals first appear after 53 seconds. This all occurred in afternoon at a little after 4pm on Friday, 8/19/16. The teens(?) spend about 10 minutes defacing the parking garage until they are scared off by a passerby. Who knows what else they would have done had they not been stopped? One of the teens then returns to take pictures of his “work”. It took hours to undo what only took minutes to …
