Historic Wallingford has published an illustrated, self-guided tour guide to exploring Wallingford. It is a brochure that highlights 20 natural, historical, and artistic points of interest along and north of the 45th Street business district.

The brochure focuses on north Wallingford since that is where Historic Wallingford has recently filed an application to designate an Historic District. The brochure has a map, pictures, either historic or current, and descriptions of the sights you are seeking out. NOW is your chance to get a tree or trees for your yard. A City of Seattle lottery, closing August 8, is offering up to four trees per property, To apply go to the Trees for Neighborhoods website to fill out the application and then wait to see if you are a lucky winner.

You can request up to four different trees or four of one kind. The pictures show four of the 13 trees that are available.

The last two years have isolated so many of us from our neighbors. Night Out is an excuse to invite the neighbors on your block to come together for an hour or so to visit and reconnect. Next Tuesday evening is the designated time. You can publicize your event with flyers to homes and posters on telephone poles.

The Friends of Meridian Playground (FOMP) are proposing to restore the historic orchard in Meridian Playground by replanting some of the fruit trees that have died and been removed. Some details of the plan were previously described in a Wallyhood post.  Since then a poll has been completed by more than 100 neighbors, almost all of whom liked the proposal. Some folks preferred one part, some another.  Now we all need to start work on making it happen. The Parks Department is moving the proposal through the process toward final approval.

Give Big is an annual celebration of our non-profit service organizations and a time to encourage you to donate to support them.
