The U District Street Fair  has been with us for 50 years and keeps getting better each year. Just a short walk over I-5 to University Way NE, south of NE 50th St to NE 41st St. It is this coming Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21 from 11 am to 6 pm.

Give Big is an annual celebration of our non-profit service organizations and a time to encourage you to donate to support them. It is sponsored by 501Commons, an organization that supports non-profits in many ways. This year the focus is on May 2 and 3 as days to Give Big, although you can, of course, donate to your favorite non-profit at any time, starting right now.

Metro is exploring how to revise its bus routes to better serve the new Lynnwood Light Rail station. In the process it also took a look at a bus serving both the Northgate and University District stations and is proposing to eliminate the service through Wallingford. The map shows a dotted line, which is the #20 bus line that is to be eliminated. You can provide Metro with comments on their website through March 10.  The page only talks about Lynnwood but this is where you can comment on the #20.

Some years ago a candidate for the Mayor of Paris, France proposed she would make sure Paris was a “15 minute city” with access to the essential commercial and public facilities within a 15 minute walk of each resident. That idea has caught on with urban density advocates and is part of the motivation for proposed upzones in Seattle. Recently a UW graduate student, Nat Henry, asked himself if he could map Seattle to see where it is already a “15 minute city” and where it lacks facilities. Wallyhood recently reported on a presentation to the Wallingford Community Council regarding the deep tunnel boring in south Wallingford, along the waterfront. The purpose of the tunnel is to create a storage tank for storm water so the West Point Treatment Plant in Discovery Park is not overwhelmed during a downpour and the mixture of storm water and residential waste water is not dumped out into the Ship Canal.
