Feeling stressed out by the election Tuesday? We hear a lot of folks are. A fellow from Pittsburgh being interviewed on the news Friday said, “I’ve been voting for 40 years but this year I feel like the weight of the world’s future is on my shoulders.” And that may be true for Pennsylvania’s voters. But here in Washington we are facing similarly consequential choices with the four initiatives on the ballot. If you feel the need to de-stress a little, the Wallingford United Methodist Church is offering you a quiet place in their sanctuary on Monday evening to drop …

It is said that non-profits receive 80% of their annual contributions between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so now is the time when they desperately need you to join in and get them set up for another year of service. Giving Tuesday is a great day to spend a few minutes getting your annual giving done.
Eight organizations active in Wallingford are participating in Giving Tuesday. If you would …
Put a Lid on It – I-5, that is.
Where I-5 cuts low through Wallingford Hill between NE 45th and NE 50th is the easiest place in town to cover with a lid. A lid will reduce freeway noise and pollution and provide 14 acres of new open space. With the enormous increase in housing in the University District, this can be the open space that fills a growing need.
Lids over freeways are not new. One of the first was Freeway Park in downtown Seattle. Several others cover parts of I-90 and WA 520. Across the country some magnificent parks have been built that reconnect neighborhoods. The picture …

Roy Zimmerman is a folk singer who specializes in satirical songs. The hilarity is definitely pointed at the right so be warned if that would irritate you. Otherwise it is infectious and will have you in a giggle fit. If you’d like a taste of Roy, …
