Seattle Historical Theater Project invites the public to a free production of Friends Across the Wires — April 16th 3:00p.m. at Wallingford United Methodist Church, 2115 N. 42nd St., Seattle

SPAMALOT to Support Schools

We heard from a Wallingfoord resident and Lincoln High parent about an upcoming production of Spamalot — Thanks for the tip, Lynn!

Opening March 24th, Spamalot! raises money for the arts within Seattle Public Schools. Local community theater company, Woodland Park Players, is staging the musical at Shoreline Community College later this month. Since its inception, Woodland Park Players has granted $37,000 to our public schools. Proceeds from these performances will benefit this worthy grant program.

“We’re inviting the Wallyhood community to support our schools by getting tickets and bringing friends, neighbors and family along for this Monty …

Luck and Legends – St. Patrick’s Day in Wallyhood

Megan Dulgar Okabayashi March 11, 2023 Comments are off

Hang onto your green beer and rascal revelry as we walk through a few of this day’s most famous legends.

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner and with it, a host of traditions, myths, and rowdy festivities. Though it was a far cry from the American traditions we see today, filled with green beer, debauchery and everyone asking for a kiss, the practice of celebrating Saint Patrick began in 1631, when the Christian church held a feast day honoring the Patron Saint of Ireland. This first St. Patrick’s day was held on the alleged day of his death, …

Remembering Jessie, The “Mayor” of Wallingford

Megan Dulgar Okabayashi March 5, 2023 1 Comment

The best part of a neighborhood are the neighbors. Wallyhood heard from the sister of Jessie Kerani Aleya VanVorhis, a longtime Wallingford resident and friend to many, who recently passed. The following words about Jessie are shared by Naomi Strand (one of Jessie’s sisters).

Jessie Kerani Aleya VanVorhis, an amazing blaze of energy in a small body, passed away December 29th, 2022 at the age of 35. Jessie was born in Calcutta, India and died on Whidbey Island, Washington. Her special powers were her electric joy and ability to connect with people.

She moved to Wallingford when she was …

Minibar Seattle – Street Food How You Like It

Honestly Good Food and Drink

Just on the Southwest edge of Wallingford, along the Burke Gilman Trail sits an old train station which, over the last 80 years has hosted several iconic Seattle businesses. In addition to a train station, this spot has been a bicycle shop, a café and now, a (mini) bar with killer Korean street food.

I first discovered Minibar when my husband’s hockey team rented it out for a holiday party. Wandering in, I was delighted to see that the former Solsticio Café had been revived…and this time, with adult beverages!

I popped in again the …

Fatal Shooting at Wallingford Encampment Near Elementary School

Megan Dulgar Okabayashi January 28, 2023 5 Comments

I woke up this morning to a post from my 5 year old’s Parent Teacher Student Association letting parents know that there had been a fatal shooting within feet of our elementary school. I have spent the hours since wresting with the tension point between keeping my young children safe and becoming a full blown NIMBY (“not in my backyard”) rather than a humanitarian focused on communal well being.

Organized groups of people without permanent shelter are not new in Wallingford Seattle and my neighbor Gary wrote about it here on Wallyhood just a few months ago.

The 42nd and …
