Chow Foods to open ‘TNT Taqueria’

The paper covering the windows of the Chow Foods storefront at 2114 N. 45th Street will soon be removed to unveil a new mexican quick-serve restaurant. Peter Levy of Chow Foods tells us that “TNT Taqueria” will open around mid-July, and he assures us that the food will be yummy. Levy also tells us that they’ll be serving beer at that location.

Chow Foods owns and operates several neighborhood eateries including the 5 Spot on Queen Anne and Endolyne Joe’s in West Seattle. The new taqueria will fill the empty space which was formerly The Jitterbug.

B.F. Day earns top award for Special Ed

Congratulations to B.F. Day Elementary School for receiving the Outstanding School Award from the Seattle Special Education PTSA! The award was presented at the Seattle Special Education PTSA’s general meeting on Tuesday, May 15, along with awards for Outstanding Volunteer and Outstanding Teacher.

I was very proud to nominate B.F Day for this award. At a time when autism is on the rise and public schools everywhere are struggling to understand and serve these students, I feel incredibly fortunate that my son attends a school with such a strong …

Wallingford Yard Sale

The granddaddy of all yard sales in Wallingford is happening this Saturday (May 19) from 9:00am – 3:00pm, and all proceeds benefit John Stanford and McDonald International schools. Here’s the scooparooni:

Bargain hunters will find kids’ toys and clothing, housewares, furniture, books, gadgets, and many other treasures at sales around the neighborhood.

The tour starts at McDonald School/Lincoln High School parking lot (4400 Interlake Avenue N.), where McDonald parents will hold their consolidated sale – hundreds (maybe thousands) of items will be available, and you can pick up a map to all the John Stanford sales.

Education at Elevation Benefit Auction

High in the mountains of Eastern Tibet stands a tiny school focused on doing a world of good. Education at Elevation (E@E), located in rural Kham, Tibet, educates and houses 75 orphaned children from ages 6-14, who come from nomadic families. The school was founded by Wendy Wong in 2007 after she met Sonam Rinpoche, a Tibetan Monk who planned to build in Tibet and was inspired by his passion to help needy children. This Saturday (May 19) is going to be a busy day at B.F. Day Elementary School — and everyone is invited to take part in the festivities and show support for the school’s music program.

From 1:00PM – 3:00PM: the B.F. Day Playground Improvement Committee invites you to an open house in the library. You’ll have a chance to look at the approved playground design and perhaps get involved in the fundraising part of the project.

High Tea this Friday

Mother’s Day may be over, but why not treat mom once more with an old fashioned high tea? This Friday (May 18), beginning at 5:30PM the Wallingford Community Kitchen will hold an old fashioned ladies high tea by prepping and serving the following fancy treats and delectables:

Mini Veggie Quiches
