Katie Pearl Named New Principal at B.F. Day

Back in March, we told you that Susan McCloskey was leaving her position as principal for B.F. Day. Last week, Interim Superintendent Susan Enfield sent the following letter to announce the school’s new principal, Katie Pearl:

Dear B.F. Day community,

I am excited today to announce the appointment of Katie Pearl as your new principal, effective July 1, 2012.

If you’ve ever been to the Wallingford Playfield on a Saturday in Autumn, then you’ve no doubt seen the frenetic swarm of orange jerseys belonging to the Woodland Soccer Club. Autumn may seem far off, but it’s now time to register your kiddos for the Club’s 2012 Fall Recreational Soccer. There are approximately 1100 kids who play for the Woodland Soccer Club, which is open to all boys and girls ages 5 and up, with the majority of the games and practices held on the Wallingford Playfield. Family 4th Fireworks on Lake Union are a Go

One Reel announced yesterday that all systems are “go” for this year’s Family 4th celebration at Lake Union, thanks in part to Starbucks as the event’s Presenting Sponsor, along with Microsoft and Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce serving as Major Sponsors. This year’s Fourth of July celebration falls on a Wednesday, and on the day after, Starbucks will hold the annual “5th of July Lake Union Cleanup” in which volunteers will pick up all the Fourth of July detritus.

Satay to be featured on ‘Check, Please’

If you don’t have any lunch plans yet for this Thursday (May 24), head over to Satay (1711 N. 45th St.) for some awesome Malaysian street food. While you’re noshing on their tasty chicken, beef, lamb, or tofu satay, a camera crew from the KCTS 9 show, “Check, Please” will be there between 11:30AM-1:00PM to film the restaurant in action.

Wallingford Farmers Market starts May 30

The Wallingford Farmers Market season kicks-off on Wednesday, May 30 from 3:30-7:00PM and is open every Wednesday (except July 4) through September 26. This is the second year the Farmers Market will be located at Meridian Park (Meridian Avenue N. at N. 50th St.).

This year, Sky Valley Farm and Skagit River Ranch are joining the market to sell fresh eggs. A Chefs Only market returns this year which takes place from 3:00PM-3:30PM every Wednesday. There will also be cooking demonstrations by our local chefs. All cooking demonstrations are scheduled for 4-5 p.m., during the market on Wednesdays. See below …

Last week, Wallingford neighbor Greg Flood alerted us to Ask.com’s promotion “You Asked, We Answered” in which Seattleites were asked which of the three requests would they like to see fulfilled: 1) Getting a free cup of joe during a morning commute; 2) minimizing stadium traffic; or 3) saving our citywide wading pools from the budget chopping block this summer.
