Hey-ho, it’s the first weekend of summer, and if we’re lucky enough, temperatures should break 60 degrees. We’re a hearty lot here in Wallingford though, and this weekend’s weather will be perfect for strolling through the neighborhood. Here’s a few things you can do while you’re out and about:

Spoke & Food

Make plans to have dinner out next Tuesday (June 26), and then grab your bike and head to one of these host restaurants participating in the third annual Spoke & Food event, from 6:00 – 10:00pm. The participating restaurants will in turn donate 20% off their total revenues towards the food bank and resource center at FamilyWorks. Last year, the Spoke & Food event raised over $3200 for the Children’s Garden Program at Seattle Tilth.

‘Spotted’ House is Painted/Up for Sale

Back in December, we asked readers to vote on a new color for an unusually-bespotted house on Latona at NE 40th St. The home, now in a deep “Segovia Red”, is now for sale.

Fremont-based Green Canopy Homes wrote to tell us they’ve transformed the house into a “Studs-out Builtgreen” home with high-efficient systems, sustainable finishes, energy efficient lighting and appliances, and planted an edible landscape full of veggies and blueberries. According to the company, “this home went from consuming 43,000 kW/h of energy per year to only 15,000! That is a 65% reduction in energy consumption! ”…

Neighbors rally at the new ‘Stone34’ site

Wallyhood reader Judy tells us that over 60 neighbors gathered on a drizzly Monday night to protest the new Skanska project in lower Wallingford, “Stone34”.

In an email she forwarded to us, the intent from the neighbors was to let the City Council know that they “want fair and sensible zoning laws” and “that it’s not appropriate to give special privileges to the developer Skanska, allowing them to build 20 feet over current zoning.”

On Monday, July 9, the City Council’s land use committee will hold a hearing on the ordinance to change the height restrictions.…

Lowell APP is Now ‘APP at Lincoln’

Last year, Seattle Public Schools moved Lowell Elementary’s Accelerated Progress Program (APP) to the Lincoln High School site in an effort to alleviate the crowding at Lowell Elementary School on Capitol Hill. Now, the District has announced that the APP program is being completely separated from Lowell Elementary School, and will be known as “APP at Lincoln”, serving as Seattle’s north end APP school.
