Wow…life is funny sometimes…I had 10 posters I was going to post in the neighborhood. When I was posting, and only on my second one, I freakishly ran into the owners! I was starting the second one, when a very nice man and woman approached me and asked me if I was posting about a lost cat, and I said, “No, a found cat.” And they said, “Really? we are missing ours”….and one thing led to another. Sharon Ehrig, also known as Wallingford’s Woodlawn Santa, phoned to let us know she won’t be able to don the red suit and wave from her porch during this year’s holiday season:
“Because of my husband’s needs this year and our health, I’m not doing Santa, much to my dismay,” she told me. “I’ll decorate the porch a little bit, but I’ll definitely be downsizing this year, which is really a blow for me.”
In years past (16, to be exact!) Sharon has lovingly festooned her home with over 15,000 lights, reindeer, snowmen, and candy canes and so much more. …
Safe Communities Meeting next week
The North Precinct of the Seattle Police Department is holding a Safe Communities meeting next Wednesday, October 10, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the North Seattle Community College cafeteria. The Safe Communities initiative is part of the Seattle Police Department (SPD) 20/20 Plan, designed to bring 20 reforms to the SPD over the next 20 months. One of these reforms includes reducing crime and creating safer neighborhoods.
The meeting is a chance for the public to hold a discussion with with police officers and City departments about chronic neighborhood issues and concerns and how to improve safety.

Julia’s Bakery re-opens this weekend
Good news for Wallingford’s lovers of baked goods: Julia’s Bakery is planning to re-open its doors this Saturday, October 6, at 8am. The bakery closed in late August, but the writing on the bakery’s windows indicate that it will be open on Saturday. Here’s the scoop on Julia’s Wallingford Bakery Facebook page:

Fall Carnival for Equality
Election Day is right around the corner folks, and this year, there are so many important issues to consider on the local and state level. One such issue, of course, is Referendum 74, the marriage equality law.

Benefit Rummage Sale this Saturday
Gift of Grace Church (2102 N. 40th St.) will be the site for a rummage sale this Saturday, October 6, from 8:00am to 5:00pm. The organizers are raising money for the Global Seva Challenge 2012, dedicated to raising awareness of sex trafficking and providing support for women and children. All proceeds go to the rescue, rehabilitation, and healing of those sold into slavery.

Mayor McGinn is coming to Wallingford
Mayor McGinn’s office has announced a Neighborhood Town Hall at the Good Shepherd Center (in Room 202) on Saturday, October 13, from 11:00am to 12:00pm. The Mayor’s visit to Wallingford is part of his Engage Seattle initiative “to ensure that as many people as possible who live, work, or play in Seattle are able to voice their concerns and offer their feedback directly to the mayor.”
