Personal safety reminder

On Monday morning, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a female jogger was attacked by a man while she was running around Green Lake. The incident occurred on Green Lake Drive North at Wallingford Avenue. According to the SPD Blotter, “the victim was able to fight off her attacker and the incident was reported at 6:45 a.m.” A nearby bicyclist chased the suspect, following him into a residential area, but lost sight of him.

Barb Burrill, one of Wallingford’s hardest working volunteers, recycling guru, Wallyhood writer, and community tree steward, has been selected as a national finalist for the Alliance for Community Trees (ACTrees) 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award. ACTrees awards individuals who are “inspirational volunteers in action who have made a contribution to urban forestry by improving community trees and the neighborhoods where they live.”

Barb is one of 40 orchard stewards who works with City Fruit and Seattle Parks and Recreation under their joint Public Orchard Steward Program. She, along with a small band of volunteers, tend to 23 trees along …

Mail theft in Wallingford

I live on the 4100 block of Whitman Ave. N.  Mine and my neighbor’s mailboxes were broken into and our mail stolen last night (Saturday, February 2) before 8pm. I’m pretty sure they took my W-2 and I know they got a new debit card I was expecting. The burglar tried using the debit card but thankfully could not since it hadn’t been activated.

I spoke to the police and they told me to call 911 if I ever see someone who seems suspicious and they can send someone over to talk to them. In particular I …
