John Stanford Earns ‘Overall Excellence’ Award

For the second year in a row, John Stanford International School (JSIS) was awarded for “Overall Excellence” by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the State Board of Education. The Washington Achievement Awards recognize top-performing schools, identified through the state’s Achievement Index and criteria set in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver.

In addition to receiving “Overall Excellence”, JSIS was also recognized as a top-performer in “Science” and in “Closing Achievement Gaps.”

The announcement on the Family 4th home page almost reads like a bad April Fool’s Day joke; and at first, I thought it was a prank since One Reel made the announcement to the media on Monday morning. But as the day wore on, and more media outlets were announcing the cancellation, I realized it was the real deal:

Honeybee swarming season is coming soon. Swarming is the natural way honeybee colonies reproduce. What happens is that during the winter of dormancy in the hive, the queen bee starts laying eggs and the workers raise the young as the colony starts ramping up their numbers for the upcoming spring’s bounty of flowering trees and plants. Good news for Satay fans: The restaurant’s freshly-roasted, house made peanut sauce is now available in 16 oz bottles to take home for $9.95.

Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow at Wallingford Center

Wallingford Center’s annual Easter Celebration takes place tomorrow (Saturday, March 30), beginning at 9:00am. The fun starts with the Bubble Man appearing at the West entrance. Then at 10:00am, round up the kiddos (and their baskets) for some good, old fashioned egg huntin’. The hunt will be organized into four different age groups: those under 3; ages 4-5; ages 6-7; and kids ages 8 and up.

From 10:00am – 12:00pm, kids can meet that long-eared galoot, the Easter Bunny, and afterwards, they can have their faces painted.
