4th of July Fireworks are a ‘go’

Ready or not, Wallingford, the 4th of July fireworks show for this year is a done deal.

The Seattle Chamber of Commerce, along with Mayor McGinn and Seafair, just announced that the 4th of July Fireworks are going to take place this year on Lake Union, with Gas Works Park as the location for day long festivities including food booths, a beer garden, music, displays, and activities.

Beth Knox, President and CEO for Seafair, announced that Western Display Fireworks will launch a 20-minute, choreographed show from a barge on Lake Union.

Ivar’s Whalemaker Lounge gets a makeover

It’s o-fish-al! After s three-month remodel, the Whalemaker Lounge at Ivar’s Salmon House (401 NE Northlake Way) has re-opened for business. The snazzy new lounge has a whole new interior, including expanded seating, plus they’ve flipped the bar 90 degrees to the right and extended it, topping it with a copper.

The folks over at Ivar’s tells us the lounge also has more water views, and the fireplace, which might have an updated fireplace tile, has river rock masonry with “KEEP CLAM” etchings on the hearth rocks, “as a nod to the company’s flounder and a hidden surprise for …

David wrote to tell us that the big white house in lower Wallingford (3519 Wallingford Avenue N.) has been demolished:

Lots of changes going on in lower Wallingford.  I came home today to find the big house (I think actually a triplex) at 35th and Wallingford demolished!  Always stood out to me as such a big residence with a nice view.  Nothing but smashed timbers now.

Chroma Cut-A-Thon For Clean Water

In honor of Earth Day on Monday (4/22), Wallyhood sponsor Chroma Salon and and Spa will host it’s second annual cut-a-thon.  The event will take place at their Wallingford location, 1905 N 45th St., from 11:00am to 7:00 p.m. All proceeds from haircuts and spa services will go to benefit the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, whose mission is to stop pollution from entering Puget Sound. Puget Soundkeeper Alliance actively patrols and monitors the waters of Puget Sound, the only environmental group to do so.

Woman attacks roommate with hammer and axe

According to Seattle Police Department (SPD), a 53 year-old woman attacked her roommate early this morning, armed with a hammer and an axe. The incident occurred in their home, near N. 50th Street and Stone Way, and officers arrived on the scene to arrest the woman after the victim phoned 911. From the SPD Blotter:

As officers were talking to the victim—who told police his girlfriend was still inside the house with the suspect—the suspect slammed the front door of the home and began throwing items at a front window while screaming at officers.

Saturday night: spaghetti and a movie

Families, neighbors, friends, and superheroes are all welcome to the Wallingford Community Senior Center this Saturday night (April 20, from 5:30 to 8:30pm) where they’ll be offering a spaghetti feed, followed by a screening of “The Incredibles”.

The movie runs 105 minutes and is rated PG.

The Wallingford Community Senior Center is located in lower level of the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Avenue N).

Operation Beautification Wallingford

Brooms and rakes? Check. Plastic bags and gloves? Check. Comfy shoes, canned goods, and an appetite for breakfast goodies? Check, check, and check! Ladies and gentlemen of Wallingford, Earth Day is fast approaching, and that means it’s time once again to clean up our beloved neighborhood.
