Here’s what’s happening in Wallingford this weekend. Plus a few things that might be worth venturing out for.
Starting Friday, Sex in the City 2 is playing on both screens at The Guild this weekend. (Anyone else surprised by that?) If you’re throwing a party, you won’t have to travel as far for that last minute trip to the liquor store. The new one is opening up at 45th & 2nd ave on Friday. More on that here. Live acoustic music from Jessika Kenney at the Good Shepard Center on Friday at 8pm. Fruit Protection Workshops Saturday morning at the…Happenin’s in the Neighboring ‘Hoods
Here’s what’s happening in our neighboring ‘hoods this past week: Our neighbors in the U District finally have a new blog of their very own, courtesy of the same Ballard-based Next Door Media company that is behind many “local” blogs north of the ship canal. Since they share articles with each other, you may have already seen some of their work (e.g., 1, 2). Welcome to the local blogging scene, guys. Two bodies were found at an Aurora Motel. Police believe it was a murder-suicide. Fremont Man, Thomas McGrann, dies at 42 in an accident in California. New restaurant opens…
Wallingford Weekend Roundup
There’s plenty going on in honor of Easter this weekend (see our Wallingford Easter weekend round-up), but there are some non-bunny related happenings, as well. Here are some quick highlights:
Music and Dance Zachary Watkins and Tiffanny Lin : “Movable, long commutes between loved ones, music for motors and resonant strings is the elusive yet evocative title for the new composition by Bay Area composer Zachary James Watkins. This new evening length work, premiered by Seattle pianist Tiffany Lin, is scored for retuned piano and a new mechanical extension called the Piano Monster built by NYC artist… (Read More)” Friday,…Jazz Festival Coming to Wallingford
Seattle’s Avant-Jazz Music Festival is coming up this weekend and next here in Wallingford at the Chapel Performance Space in the Good Shepherd Center (50th & Sunnyside). This is the second year for the IS THAT JAZZ? Festival, which “embraces jazz as a living, breathing art-form, one that must change and grow.”
Headlining this year’s festival is trumpeter and Seattle native Cuong Vu, who will be performing with his Trio from New York.
I’m no expert when it comes to jazz, but Cuong Vu’s style is a real pleasure to listen to. It’s a smooth blend of jazz, rock …
Major changes to King County Metro
Our local public transit system is making some major changes in 2010. Along with the usual fare increase (its $0.25 this time), they’re also switching everything over to the new ORCA card system.
I ordered mine and added a PugetPass online. It was fairly straightforward.
If you usually use transit passes, you’ll need to get one of these new cards (unless you get them from your work – they’ll take care of it for you). Get one before Feb. 1st – that’s when they start charging $5 just for the card.
You can order one online at www.orcacard.com or …
DIY Holiday Fair Features Local Art & Music
(Wallyhood welcomes Liz Wagner, the newest addition to our writing team)
With holiday shopping season in full swing, you may be searching for something a little different this year.
Find something locally ‘grown’ at the DIY Holiday Fair and Fundraiser, “Swap It. Spin It. Bring It.” this Saturday, December 12th at the Seattle Center.
Wallingford’s volunteer-run independent internet radio station Hollow Earth Radio (HER) teamed up with The Vera Project to host this one-of-a-kind art and music fair at Vera (Republican and Warren Ave N in Queen Anne). From 11am – 5pm, the DIY marketplace will feature independent …
