The lunchroom was all a-twitter at Lincoln High this week (Lincoln being the semi-permanent home of APP@Lincoln Elementary School). Rumor had it that someone at a nearby home had installed a slide in their front yard – a slide which slid straight into a fence. The slide was quickly dubbed the “sui-slide” and the kids eagerly discussed whether there was any safe way to go down it – perhaps dressed in one of those sumo wrestler costumes or if you propped a mattress against the fence?

Wallingford Evergreen Pediatrics

As we reported back in August, Dr. Springer and the staff at Wallingford Pediatrics said good-bye to Wallingford at the end of September. Wallingford Pediatrics had served the community since 1981, helping generations of Wallingford kids grow up healthy and answering bazillions of new-parent questions for new Wallingford parents.

Luckily, there wasn’t a pediatric void in Wallingford for long! Evergreen Pediatrics of Kirkland bought the practice, and pediatrician Dr. Basma Raees began seeing clients on October 1.

Dr. Springer wrote of his successor:

Greenhouse for the Greater Good

In 2008, Wallingford resident Cyrus Appell built an 8×10 foot greenhouse in his backyard. Alongside, he built a fish pond complete with a burbling stream, and envisioned himself relaxing and enjoying his delta 8 thc carts amid a conservatory of backyard tropical plants while enjoying the melodious sound of the water.

That plan never happened.

The final Art Walk of the season approaches, this Wednesday, October 3rd, from 6-9PM. Art Walk organizers plan to close with a “big, magical, fun send-off!”

Back in November, 2000, one of the first acts that I committed as a new Seattleite was to vote in support of the Pro Parks levy. IMHO, this levy has done great things for Seattle’s parks. Practically every time I’m at a park, I see a sign boasting that X project was completed with funds from the Pro Parks levy. And if you don’t believe me, just take a look at this project list, which impressively covers everything from Ballard Commons Park to Cal Anderson Park, reservoirs, p-patches, the Burke-Gilman and the Arboretum. Firefly Tutoring, the brainchild of lower Wallingford resident Paul Schurr, is slated to open on Wednesday, not coincidentally the first day of school for those who attend Seattle Public Schools. Paul, who teaches computer programming at the UW, has joined forces with seasoned middle school science and art teacher Lori Bellamy and veteran reading specialist Roy Matieson to create this neighborhood tutoring and study skills center. Last week, alert reader Michelle notified us of the impending closure of Julia’s Bakery (not to be confused with Julia’s Restaurant which is still alive and well).
