Park Your Bike on a Big Fish

Translation: you can now park your bike on a large fish-shaped bike rack in the lower hood. This fabulous, car-sized, rack was installed at 10am yesterday down at the corner of Woodlawn and 34th, right in front of the Essential Baking Company. It was quick and easy; it only required three workers, a few traffic cones, and takes up but one car space. One car spot for 14 bike slots seems like a healthy trade.

Local Authors At Not A Number

The Wednesday Book Signing for authors Nick Licata and Rita Amer was bright, muffled, and intimate. They sat comfortably in the leopard print booth provided by Not A Number’s eclectic ambiance and chatted with each other as they waited for people to stroll in. I sat myself next to the snack table, munching on chocolate cookies and sipping apple juice as I evaluated the scene. Rita is an upbeat woman with a creatively elegant fashion sense; a beautiful cream blouse with flowing sleeves, a green skirt reminiscent of poodle-skirt days, and some exceptionally adorable leopard print heals. Support Wallingford Artists at a Local Art Fundraiser

We already know that Wallingford is home to some extraordinary art, but it is also home to some extraordinary artists. Just a month ago I had the privilege of attending an in-home art show down at the corner of 51st and Wallingford. The venue was cozy and comfortable; the show was hosted in Reagan Jackson’s home- in the space of a cleared out living room, dining room, and bedrooms. Reagan combined creative forces with some friends and put together a show featuring paintings, jewelry, poetry, hand made bags, and baked goods. Reagan’s roommate Tina had jewelry featured in the show. …

Oasis Art Gallery, the hood’s affordable stop for exceptional art is hosting a new exhibit; Life Manifested. This exhibit runs through July 25th and focuses on five different artists that portray unique perspectives of how life manifests in our world: Lynne Auld presents a Focus on Paris Life; Tomoko Briggs portrays Otherworldly Habitats and Communities; David Harrison beautifully depicts Impressions of Madrona Trees; Ryan O’Keefe expresses the Elements of Movement; Arturo Torres shows us Doorways to Cultural Discovery.

Wallingford Flex Cat Found

It has been a long ten days, but thankfully, it has only been ten since the Wallingford Flex Cat went missing. Today an alert neighbor down in the lower hood heard some meowing coming from a construction site on Sunnyside; a home just a few doors away from Bodhi’s is in the final stages of a remodel. The hood’s beloved feline must have wandered in when someone was there to share his wealth of love and then gotten accidentally locked inside.
