I just found out that my friend Nancy’s partner was hit by a motorcycle on Saturday and is still at Harborview with a head injury. The family is looking for more information about the accident. I was wondering if you would post this on the blog?

An Alarming Response to Neighborhood Disruption

I woke up crankier than usual one morning last week after a car alarm had woken me around 1:30 a.m. for the second night in a row. Earlier that evening, a cop had visited our street to follow up on complaints received from neighbors who reported the alarm had been going off all day and all night. The cop let us know that the owner of the vehicle lived nearby and he was on his way to speak with him. He also mentioned that leaving threatening notes on the vehicle was ill-advised. Noted.

Ezell’s Famous Chicken Coming to Wallingford

Ezell’s Famous Chicken confirmed plans to open a new Wallingford location at 45th and Corliss (the former Uptown Espresso lot). A recent update to their website reads :

Following the recent opening in Bellevue (140th NE & Bel-Red Road), the next Ezell’s Famous Chicken will open in Seattle!

The new place is located in the heart of the Wallingford neighborhood, at the corner of North 45th & Corliss Avenue. The restaurant will have plenty of parking, and access from the U.W., I-5, and the surrounding area is easy!

Construction has begun and equipment is ordered. A late-summer opening is planned.…

HALA Should Develop Golf Courses and Cemeteries to Create New Walkable Neighborhoods

The effect of the upzone to urban villages that HALA proposes is clear as we have already seen it happen in Ballard. Older homes and apartments will be shredded and displace thousands, driving out current residents and turning neighborhoods into unlivable construction zones as the transformation takes place. Further, all the new people that move in will swamp our already overloaded transportation systems and schools, driving up property taxes as we try to catch up and further damaging housing affordability and livability in our city. Coco’s House Opens in Shima Sushi Space

Many folks will fondly remember Shima Sushi located near the intersection of Wallingford and 45th which closed last year (Sayonara, Shima Sushi) due to difficulties with their lease. The owners also ran Hawaiian Breeze, located in the same building, which closed about the same time. The sushi space, sandwiched between an Edward Jones office and the Venetian Nail Spa (formerly Babalu) did not sit idle for long. Today, Tuesday, Coco’s House throws open its doors for business.
