We’ve got an update for you all on the fire at the Rancho Bravo Taco truck. Freddy Rivas, the owner responded:
We did have an incident that will need some exterior repair work done, most likely off site. It was the result of a design oversight by the builders. Luckily there was no damage to the interior of the unit and it should be a relatively simple fix. We’re going to need to replace the extractor fan. In the meantime we will set up the little trailer again and hopefully have the large unit up again and ready to go …Wedding Season Approaches
As our less than wintery winter plods along, many people are looking forward to spring for more then just the weather. As couples prep for the big day Wallingford has the icing on the cake, or more correctly, the cupcake. Trophy Cupcakes, in Wallingford Center, is holding tastings for couples interested in cupcake creations for their reception.
The tastings are hosted by Jennifer Shea, the proprietor and head wedding consultant. Participants get to taste 12 flavors of mini-cupcakes and review the over 40 varieties, not counting seasonal options, that Trophy offers. Colors and flavors can be perfectly matched to the …
Woodland Park Fields Grand Re-opening
Back in June, we noted that the lower Woodland Park fields were getting a facelift, to the tune of $5 million. Well, the work is done and it’s time to celebrate:
Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Green Lake community and sportsfield users are celebrating the renovated Lower Woodland Park fields #2 & #7 on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 9 – 11 a.m. The event will include a special soccer clinic and games hosted by current Major League Soccer players and professional trainers, and a ribbon cutting ceremony. The fields’ inauguration is co-sponsored by Seattle Youth Soccer Association and Woodland …
Beat The Heat?
When we were young, we spent a spring and summer in Washington, DC, a town known both for its political intrigue and its oppressive, humid heat. Being a cost (and environmentally) conscious college student, we found a simple alternative to air conditioning: the grocery store. Many a stifling afternoon found us cheerfully, slowly strolling the aisles of the local IGA, reading labels, chatting with stockers, and simply standing peacefully in the frozen food section. A trip to the Museum of Modern American Consumerism.
Which leads us to our reader question: what are you doing to beat the heat? Temperatures are …
Wallingford Center Apartments
Our friends Monica and Jason mentioned to us that they’re looking to rent a 3bd house in Wallingford. We’d love to have them in the neighborhood. We also noticed that there’s been some talk in the Wallyhood Forums from people asking about housing and apartments in Wallingford (seeking and selling).
All that housing talk jogged our memory, reminding us that Amy Singer, the building manager at Wallingford Center, was kind enough to give us a guided tour of the apartments that live over the shops. We’d always been curious about them, and during the tour, we learned how rental properties …
Post-Consumerism
(Fair warning: this post contains no Wallingford content. It’s just stuff we think, and opinionated stuff at that. You should probably skip it.)
We read this Sunday’s New York Times interview with Obama (After the Great Recession) with a bit more anticipation than one ought probably read articles about politicians. Admittedly, we have our wonky side.
Still, we were a bit disappointed. There were interesting topics covered and good points made, not least of which is the notion that health care reform is essential, and much more complex than “insure everyone”. (For example, end-of-life care is a disproportionate consumer of …
Starbucks ouch!
On our way back from Guemes Island this weekend, the Wallyhood family primly passed Starbucks, eschewing the corporate behemoth for a “little guy” stand. We were rewarded with two cups of warmish milk tasting mildly of burnt coffee.
Given our obviously self-destructive behavior, it should come as no shock that we’re no fans of the Starbucks Coffee and Lifestyle MegaCorp. That said, we’re also no fans of empty storefronts, so it was unfortunate to hear that the Starbucks at the corner of 45th and Stone Way would be closing May 22nd, and we’re too kind to indulge a bit of …
