While much has changed in our neighborhood in the past decade and a half, one constant has been Meaningful Movies. (Well, okay, there’s Dick’s also!) The average visitor to the Triple R Brewery taproom at 916 NE 64th St. in the Roosevelt neighborhood may not give much of a thought as to where the beer is actually brewed. But the frequent-flyers to our local breweries may well look around and ask themselves, “Where are all those stainless steel fermenters and such that every brewery has?” You won’t find those at the taproom though, because the beer isn’t brewed there; the beer is, in fact, brewed here in Wallingford. So you could call it our hometown brew.

As I did last year, I reviewed the analytics for this site to uncover the top ten stories of 2017 as judged by page views. While 2016’s top ten was spread rather widely across topics, it was clear that in 2017, HALA (the Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda) was what was on neighbors’ minds. Business openings and closing also figured prominently. I looked a little further down the list at the top 20 and 30 to confirm that, yeah, we still like to eat out; restaurant reviews are pretty frequently read on Wallyhood.

Let’s first get a couple of things straight. This article is not about a Friday afternoon tea; it’s about Friday Afternoon Tea which recently opened on Stone Way. And the other thing to realize is that many may not consider Friday Afternoon Tea to be a replacement for the Teahouse Kuan Yin which closed it’s doors last year. While Teahouse Kuan Yin had that very “lived in” feel that comes with being in its space literally for decades, Friday Afternoon Tea has more of a “been here since last week in a building that went up a couple years ago” …

If you stop by our neighborhood branch of the Seattle Public Library with any frequency, you may have noticed a new face recently.  On October 9, Dawn Rutherford had her first day as Wallingford’s new Supervising Librarian, replacing her predecessor who has moved to Canada. She comes to us from the Snohomish-Island County library system where she was Teen Services Coordinator and also manager of the Brier Library (not all at the same time!).

Our friends at Floating Bridge Brewing have come up with yet another way to allow you to drink their excellent brews while helping a good cause. Floating Bridge has teamed up with La Isla  Puerto Rican restaurant in Ballard to raise money to assist victims of the recent hurricanes on the island.
