While this week has taken a rainier, colder turn from previous weeks, there’s no mistaking the fact that Spring is on its way. Flowers are sprouting up all over, blossoms are falling from the trees all over the sidewalks, and my allergies are kicking up big time.

So it’s oh so apropos that Hansens Florist (46th & Stone Way N, across from Blue Star Cafe) is hosting a free spring open house on Friday & Saturday, April 12-13, 11am to 4pm. Don’t forget to say hi to their new florist, Sue Grimord.

A number of readers have written to us to inform us that the Elysian Brewery in Tangletown is changing hands. So I biked on up there to check it out. Sure enough, a sign on the door reads:

After being a Co-signer on the lease for 16 years, one of Elysian’s co-founders, David Buhler, will be taking over the lease fully. David is excited to open his own pub and continue to be part of the Tangletown community.

The Neighborhood Street Fund is a program by which citizens can propose transportation-related work in their neighborhoods — work to be performed by Seattle DOT. The Move Seattle Levy, which the voters approved in 2015, contributed $24 million to this fund. So this is your tax dollars at work, folks. The improvements slated for 40th St., which we’ve written about here, is an example of an NSF project.

This one almost escaped our notice. On January 25, Diggity Dog,  located at 5421 Meridian Ave up in Tangletown and long the go-to place for hot dogs and sausages here in the neighborhood, closed its doors. In its place will come Olé Cafe.

I was driving through Tangletown this morning when I noticed butcher paper over all the windows of Diggity Dog. Signs were posted saying a new restaurant, the Olé Cafe, would be opening in the spring. (Spanish? Mexican?)

Confirmed on Diggity’s Facebook page that they closed at the end …

This month’s Meaningful Movie, Starving the Beast, will be shown as usual at the Keystone Church, 5019 Keystone Place N. on Friday, February 1 (the first Friday of the month). Doors open at 6:30. Admission is free, but donations are requested to cover costs. This showing represents a bit of a twofer as MM will also be celebrating its 16th anniversary.
