Then I went on a bike tour with my kids. The first stop was at Woodland Park and Motor Place. The redwood was little, but the art fence there is worth the trip:

BikeWorks is hosting what may become a bi-annual bike drive this Sunday, September 20 from 11-2.  There are multiple locations throughout the city, including one at my house right here in Wallingford. These bikes are used to teach disadvantaged kids bike repair, bicycling skills, work and business, recycling, leadership, and much more.  Our signature program teaches the kids how to strip and rebuild a bike, and then after a set number of community service hours they “earn” their own bike.  We also have camps, our own bike shop (we sell used bikes with the help of youth apprentices), …

Yesterday Jordan laid out how Washington State’s regressive tax system is damaging our schools, leading to the teacher strike we are now going through. Not only that, but property taxes and sales taxes focus the burden of taxes on middle and lower income individuals, amplifying housing affordability problems in the process.

The Harvest Breakfast scheduled for this morning by the WCSC is cancelled because their fridge broke. In other cancellation news, the teacher strike is resulting in the postponement of the the JSIS Playground meeting this Monday.

The Tilth Harvest Festival is not reliant on a fridge or teachers so it’s still on from 10 to 4 today. Check out chickens, goats, honeybees, and a rooster. If you’re interested in waterways or other Community Council doings, they’ll have a booth at the festival as well.
