Both Michael Maddux and Rob Johnson say Mike O’Brien is the city council representative they most resemble politically and neither is interested in pointing out differences with the other candidate.  They’ve both generally endorsed HALA and Move Seattle and neither wants to point to an issue where they differ with their opponent. Both are wonkish hard workers that are 30-something and live outside of Wallingford.

There’s a new park going in on Lake Union between Recycled Cycles and Agua Verde. It’ll be called Portage Bay Park and will feature “small gathering areas, a picnic spot, informal recreational opportunities, hand carried boat access, natural shoreline habitat, and interpretative and educational elements.” It would be better still if it had a rope swing, but lawyers.

It’s no pocket park- it’s a fairly large stretch of land that connects to the park next to Agua Verde. It’s being designed now, and should be built and open to the public by 2018:

It’s a wide open race for Seattle City Council District 4, with Rob Johnson and Michael Maddux each working to represent our neighborhood on city council. District 6 is O’Brien’s to lose, but Weatbrook is hanging tough and forcing him to think locally, so that race is also fun to follow. When you want the government to do something (or stop doing something) odds are your district candidate is the one you’ll be asking, so don’t be an endorsement zombie, see what the candidates have to say!

The Wallingford Farmer’s Market has its last session of the year this Wednesday from 3:30 to 7 PM (it restarts in the spring). Along with the market, try some free apples from the orchard.

If you are in Wallingford you are probably aware of the gruesome accident where a Ducks vehicle slammed into a charter bus on the Aurora Bridge, killing 4 and wounding many more at lunch time today. Initial reports are of a vehicle malfunction, although the scene will remain under investigation for some time.

This “accident” is not really an accident, as an accident implies something unavoidable. Accidents just happen, but this sort of incident is the inevitable outcome of loop holes in our transportation infrastructure that are resulting in outdated, unsafe designs continuing on forever.
