Your New Transfer Station Layout

On Monday the new transfer station layout was settled on by the stakeholder group. While the design requires a rezone and moves operations closer to residential, if done correctly the new design can be an asset to the community. The “Concept C” design is shown here, with the outline of the current transfer station in red (click the picture to zoom it):

In keeping with a 40 year tradition, the Wallingford Community Council will be meeting tonight from 7 to 9 in the Good Shepherd Center in room 202. We would have met on Sundays but the nuns didn’t want us working then.

Tonight’s meeting will focus on the dump (of course) and bike projects in Wallingford. Virgina Coffman from SDOT will be talking about bike plans in the neighborhood that will impact Latona and Thackeray, and will give an update on the boulevard plans for 43rd / 44th. This Wednesday is our regular Wallingford Community Council meeting, in room 202 of the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Avenue N). We have an action packed agenda of endorsements and reviews to get through, and we hope you can make it:

Baby Chick Season Has Begun!

We’ve had chickens for a decade, raising most from chicks. If you want to raise chicks, your season starts now: From this week through to the end of April the Bothell Feed Center is selling baby chicks. We currently have Rock Star and Plymouth Barred Rock birds, but Orpingtons and Australorps are our favorite breeds (gentle, good layers, not so destructive).

Chicks are easy for the first month or so- you just need a box, a lamp, and some starter feed. After they turn into pullets it gets more complicated as they’re too small to be outside and fend off …

Saturday Valentines At The Zoo

The Woodland Park Zoo can get kinda old if you’re a member of it and have seen all the exhibits a couple times, and it can get even more stale for the animals themselves. Most animals figure out the routine and spend a lot of time napping, although the otters fortunately have acute ADHD.

Wallingford Community Council Meeting

The next Wallingford Community Council Meeting will be held Wednesday, February 2nd from 7 pm to 9 pm in the Wallingford Community Senior Center (WCSC) downstairs in the Good Shepherd Center at 4649 Sunnyside Ave N. This way we can review the new community technology center that has been set up!

520, Tolling, and “Transportation Choices”

SDOT is planning to finally stick it to 520 commuters this spring, to the proposed tune of $7 per day for peak commutes. Unfortunately, the Valhalla I fervently wished for was eliminated as an option, as they also plan to nail carpoolers- you know, those little buses that run for free. My interpretation is that carpoolers lack for a lobby that can push their point of view. They also aren’t extreme enough for either political party to pander to (Cars Bad! Cars Good! Nazi!)
