UPDATE 9/9: Terrie Johnston, the North Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator with the Seattle Police Department, got back to me after this post was published. She has a theory as to why the images have not yet been obtained by SPD and will investigate further. But she wants us to know that SPD will gladly take evidence of crime in the neighborhood. I’ll be working behind the scenes to connect her with Tina or the QFC team. Hopefully, SPD will have some footage in their hands soon. Don’t let the post-Labor Day-here-comes-the-dang-rainy-season blues keep you indoors just yet. Community Breakfast to Celebrate the Season

The Wallingford Community Senior Center will host a Harvest Breakfast on Saturday, 9/10. Attendees will enjoy a seasonal breakfast, freshly-made for neighbors and friends.

Wallyhood hasn’t seen the menu yet, but do we really need to know anything more than “harvest breakfast” to get the taste buds fired up?

Plus, there’s a bonus: immediately after breakfast you can just walk ’round back & enjoy Seattle Tilth’s Harvest Fair from 10am – 4pm in Meridian Park. Wallyhood’s got more detail about the fair here.

Fall Neighborhood Matching Funds focus on Emergency Prep

The Neighborhood Matching Fund (NMF) program was created in 1988 to provide neighborhood groups with City resources for community-driven projects that enhance and strengthen their own neighborhoods. Wallingford has benefited from these funds in the past, such as the 46th Street Mural and the installation of new playground equipment at McDonald School.

The Fall 2011 cycle of the Small and Simple Projects Fund will have a single focus: emergency preparedness.

Seattle Department of Neighborhoods has partnered with the Office of Emergency Management to offer this funding opportunity designed to help community members plan for emergency situations with their neighbors. If …

Thanks to a Wallyhood tip from Helen the Gardener, I’ve just learned about a new honey company that’s being launched, in part, right here in Wallingford.

Lower Wallingford resident, Kevin Gow, and his business partner Krista Conner, announce the launch of Beek’s Honey. That’s right. Beek’s — shorthand for bee keeper or bee geek. Kevin is both, so the name definitely fits. Beek’s doesn’t have an online presence yet, but you can sample their product and pick up a jar of it at Helen’s next garden sale (usually held Saturday and Sunday mornings at 3628 Burke Ave).

Thackeray bus re-route cancelled today

Last Wednesday, Margaret told us about the repaving of Thackeray Place, and that Metro buses would be rerouted down 45th last Thursday & Friday, as well as today.

Metro has just cancelled that re-route, so catch your bus on Thackeray as you normally would today!

From Metro: ” The scheduled reroute for Route 26 local & express are canceled for today Tuesday, August 16. Routes 26 local & express will be on regular route.”

Does this mean the repaving effort is completed not just on time, but early? Refreshing!

$20 car tab fee enacted, no Metro cuts

Last Friday, King County Executive Dow Constantine announced that the King County Council had enough votes to pass a $20 car tab fee at Monday’s scheduled meeting about Metro funding. If the Council voted to enact the car tab fee, there would be no reason to put that decision before the voters in November. And no reason for Metro to cut 600,000 service hours beginning in February.
