Baby Maarten’s Yard Sale — Thanks Wallyhoodies!

A few weeks ago, we reported on a then-upcoming Yard Sale to benefit Baby Maarten, a young Seattlite who is suffering from brain cancer. The sale was a huge success this past weekend, in large part thanks to the generous donations of Wallyhood readers. Many of you donors asked for an update following the sale. Here ya go:

What is up with the sound stage & loud electric music on Wallingford Avenue, just below 34th? It seems that the little cul de sac there has been blocked off with “road closed” signs and a music stage has been erected.

Breast Cancer 3-Day in Wallingford

Note, though, that this post was written on Saturday, prior to the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk’s visit to Wallingford, but our lazy editor didn’t notice it until Sunday, after the march had gone through, but still has good info about the event for those who caught it).

The Breast Cancer 3-Day is an annual 60 mile walk designed to raise funds and heighten awareness for breast cancer. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate survivors, victims, care providers, and familes who’ve been affected by the disease.

Arson in North Seattle?

The Seattle Fire Department is warning residents that a series of fires in the Greenwood neighborhood were intentionally set. There have been at least 4 suspicious fires in the area in the last two months — two of them rather recently.

In addition, two abandoned buildings on the western edge of the UW campus were torched last night, according to King 5. Fire investigators aren’t saying the fires are all connected, but there’s certainly something going on.

The Office of Economic Development is seeking nominations for the Mayor’s Small Business Awards 2009 through September 2nd.

According to the OED (not the Oxford English Dictionary, the economic guys downtown), the annual awards honor the diversity and excellence of 10 small businesses in Seattle, as well as their contribution to our economic vitality and quality of life.
