Chris S. Witwer likes to call herself Wallyhood’s “Lower Wallingford Correspondent.” Chris is a former Texan (is there any such thing?) who came to Seattle in 2005 for three reasons: weather, scenery, and coffee culture. It has taken her four years to begin to understand Seattle humor, but she’s getting there. Monica Guzman at the Seattle PI recently pointed readers to a Seattle Met Magazine article about the 15 best places to live in Seattle … and Wallingford is NOT on the list.  Oh the indignity!

Ballard, Queen Anne & Green Lake made the list.  But not Wallingford.  WTF? We must investigate:

Housed at the Good Shepherd Center, the ALLIANCE FRANCAISE OF SEATTLE is a non-profit cultural & educational organization that strives to improve understanding between France and other countries.  One of the ways they do that is to arrange for a summer student exchange program.  Here’s where you come in:

Urban Assault Ride 2010

The Urban Assault Ride (bikes, that is) will wend its way through Wallingford on Sunday, May 16th.  If you’re not familiar,  UAR is fast-growing event that started in Austin, Texas.  This year’s Seattle ride benefits Bikeworks Seattle, a non-profit whose mission is to build sustainability by promoting bicycling & by educating young people.

The ride works like this: teams of two set out to hit various checkpoints throughout the city, in any order you wish.  At each checkpoint riders dismount, complete a fun/adventurous obstacle course (which could involve Big Wheels, Slip N Slides, kayaks, puzzles, etc), remount, and head on …

Lower Wallingford’s Institute for Systems Biology took over Fremont’s Waiting for the Interurban Tuesday, hanging inflatable DNA strands and giving the would-be passengers some light reading to pass the time:  copies of a recently published Science journal article about ISB’s work sequencing the genome of a family of four.  Read about it here.
