Chris S. Witwer likes to call herself Wallyhood’s “Lower Wallingford Correspondent.” Chris is a former Texan (is there any such thing?) who came to Seattle in 2005 for three reasons: weather, scenery, and coffee culture. It has taken her four years to begin to understand Seattle humor, but she’s getting there. Chris is a bureaucrat by day, and caffeine-fueled blogger when she’s not reading novels or pretending to write one. Stone Soup Theater Summer Programs

Wallingford’s Stone Soup Theater offers summer programs to keep the kiddos busy, engaged, and entertained this summer.   And if you’ve got kids in your house, you know how very important this summertime public service is.

The 2010 summer programs consist of half day or full day workshops the weeks of June 28-August 27, Monday-Friday 9am-12pm  (5-7 & 3-4 yrs only) & 9am-2pm (age groups 6-9, 8-13, and 10-20 yrs).

As we reported earlier this week, the Fremont 5k and Briefcase Relay is Friday evening, and with that — some rush hour traffic delays are expected in lower Wallingford.

Hollow Earth Radio: Movin’ On

In January ’09, Wallyhood introduced us to Hollow Earth Radio — an Internet radio station broadcasting an eclectic mix of music and interviews 24 /7 from right here in Wallingford.

Sadly, we’ve recently learned that Hollow Earth is moving out of the ‘hood and into the Central district.  But it’s good news for them, for local musicians, and for indie music fans throughout the city.  From their recent press release:

2010 Wallingford Garden Tour 6/6

Back in April, we wrote about the Wallingford Neighborhood Office’s search for additional gardens to feature during this year’s garden tour.  Now, it’s tour time!

The 2010 Wallingford Garden Tour will be held on Sunday June 6th, 10am-4pm. The self-guided tour allows you to enjoy some of the beautiful and inspiring private gardens in the Wallingford neighborhood. Ride of Silence: 7pm tonight

We’ve just learned the Ride of Silence takes place at 7pm tonight, starting & ending at Gas Works Park in lower Wallingford.

The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride. There are no sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed …

Destination: Yarn

Puget Sound yarn stores are coming together again May 20th to May 23rd to celebrate knitting and crocheting with a long weekend full of special events as part of the Fifth Annual Destination: Yarn tour.

What makes this event special, according to Bad Woman Yarn co-owner Lee Burrow, is its collaborative nature:  “Few competing retail businesses plan something for all of those businesses to participate in together.”  One year, they even hosted a “coopertition” — a cooperative competition.  The 25 organizing retail shops meet monthly all year round to plan for the yarn tour.  Now that’s some friendly competition!
