Tonight, August 3rd, Seattle will join other cities across the nation in a “night out against crime.”  The Seattle Night Out is intended to:

Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness Generate support for & participate in local anti-crime programs Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships Send a message to the bad guys that neighborhood are organized and fighting back.

It’s also a great chance to celebrate the Wallingford community.  If your block isn’t hosting a block party this year, you can still participate by getting out there and meeting your neighbors.

Blue Angels Back in Town

“There will be closures to the I-90 bridge next week so the Blue Angels can terrorize Lake Washington,”  says lower Wallingford worker bee Stephen Parris.  I couldn’t say it better myself, so I didn’t.

Road closures really shouldn’t affect Wallingford much but if you’re headed east, or if you’re passing through town Thursday-Sunday, be sure to check out the traffic details here.

Congratulations Maria Hines!

Tilth Organic Cuisine chef Maria Hines kicked some ass and won her match against Iron Chef Morimoto on last night’s airing of Iron Chef America.  What a sweet win for this young James Beard Award winner.   A hearty congratulations to Ms. Hines and to her talented sous chefs, Larkin Young and Jason Brzozowy.

Hines’ natural style and organic cooking lent themselves to a compost joke in the show’s opening moments.  Then it was all business.  The secret ingredient didn’t hurt: Pacific cod.  Hines and her crew finished plating the following five courses just in time to enjoy a champagne toast …

Suspected Bank Robber Nabbed in Wallingford

North Crime Prevention Coordinator Diane Horswill tells us that a suspect in the July 26th Key Bank robbery was arrested at the Wallingford Playfield last Friday.  We suspected as much Friday morning, and now our hunch is confirmed.

The arrest was made thanks to the keen eye of newly appointed Community Police Team (CPT) Officer Loren Street.

CPT officers work a little differently than patrols cops.  Rather than respond to 911 calls, they are assigned to specific areas or neighborhoods with the intent of preventing and alleviating chronic crime problems.  Seattle.gov says:

This weekend I finally got a chance to watch Food, Inc. And just like the trailer promised, I no longer look at dinner the same way.  Nor lunch, nor breakfast.  Nor the lovely things to be found at the Wallingford Farmer’s Market:  cherries, fresh meats, handmade pasta, greens, carrots, kolaches, marinades, ice cream, etc.
