Last time I wrote a Weekend Roundup, I said it wasn’t Fall yet. Guess I won’t say that this time. But that doesn’t mean there still isn’t plenty to do around the ‘hood:
Friday 5pm-7pm. City Cellars holds informal drop-in tastings on Fridays. This week, they’ll feature “Oregon Other Red Wines.” Hmmm. Other?? Or is it Other Red?? Ever notice how Gas Works Park sometimes smells like corn chips? I usually notice it in the summer when it’s been hot outside for a while, like during the 2009 Lullaby Moon. Well, there’s a reason for the smell.
As Jordan wrote back in July:
Gas Works Park is so named for the gas plant, tar refinery and incinerator that used to sit on that land. Of course, when you’ve got all that nastiness boiling there for so long, it’s tough to clean up. The top-layer of soil (down about a foot and a half) was removed and replaced, but …
Farmers Market Wednesday
It’s that time again! It’s Wednesday! Be sure to stop by for one of the last Wallingford Farmers Markets of the season. Beans, winter squash, and huckleberries are making appearances this week, as is Chef Dustin Ronspies from Art of the Table.

Remember, all Seattle farmers markets accept Food Stamps (SNAP), and WIC & Senior Farmers Market Nutritional Program (FMNP) checks, so stock up on local deliciousness for the coming months of hibernation. Also, participating retailers at Wallingford Center offer …

You’re invited to join Wallyhood’s favorite do-gooders for a silent auction and delicious fundraising dinner Sunday, 10/3. The City of Seattle faces a $67 million general fund deficit for 2011, meaning there are some very difficult budget decisions to be made in the months to come. For example, SPD’s Crime Prevention Coordinator for Wallingford, Diane Horswill, told Wallyhood in August that the Crime Preventation program is at risk.
The City Council is tasked with balancing Seattle’s 2011-2012 budget, and requests input from residents as they try to figure out how to do that. So, the Seattle City Council invites us all to participate in this year’s budget process:
