Witwer likes to call herself Wallyhood’s “Lower Wallingford Correspondent.” Chris is a former Texan (is there any such thing?) who came to Seattle in 2005 for three reasons: weather, scenery, and coffee culture. HONK! Fest West returns to Seattle for its fourth year this weekend.  The traveling festival will visit  Georgetown on Friday; Gas Works Park on Saturday, May 14; and Seattle Center on Sunday.

What is Honk! Fest West?  Well, it’s not a gaggle of geese or a google of gooses.  Nor is it a festival designed to celebrate my Roman nose.  It’s about horns & percussion & dancing.  To quote the Honk! Fest organizers themselves:

FamilyWorks Annual Puppet Show

When I was a kid, one of my uncles was a minister.  A minister who traveled with marionettes, spreading the gospel through singing, dancing puppets.  No, I’m not kidding.  It was a lot of fun.  And now I know why I love The Sound of Music so much.

Anyway, speaking of fun with puppets (minus the gospel in this case), the annual Puppet Show Fundraiser at FamilyWorks is upon us!  Saturday May 14th 3:30-5pm.

Saturday morning, when I walked down North 34th street for fancy coffee, I noticed something odd.

The street was clean! The sidewalk was completely free of litter. Everything looked scrubbed and ready for tourists summertime.   North 34th street looked just as good as North 45th did after the Wallingford Community Council’s Spring Clean last month. Did I miss a community clean up event in lower Wallingford?

Wallingford Walks 2011

Wallingford Walks are back!  And the first one, the Spring Garden Walk, is scheduled for Saturday, May 14.

At the Spring Garden Walk, you’ll learn horticulture tips from master gardener Laura Watson while viewing some of Wallingford’s best flower and vegetable gardens.

 

As in years past, meet at the Tully’s Coffee at N. 45th & Meridian Avenue N. at 11am.  Free!  Rain or shine, all are welcome.  The tour is a moderate, 45 minute walking tour.

Earth Day was launched on April 22nd, 1970 and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement.  This year, Earth Day’s theme is A Billion Acts of Green: our people-powered campaign to generate a billion acts of environmental service and advocacy.  Wow, that’s a tall order!
