McDonald School Tours and Open House

McDonald Elementary will host tours Feb 29, March 1 and 5. Tours will be at Lincoln High School, the temporary location.

McDonald School Seeks Walkathon Sponsors

Next Friday (10/22), McDonald School will hold its first annual Walkathon to raise money for extra curricular programs and teaching assistants.  The McDonald School PTA is asking friends and family of McDonald School students, as well as local businesses to help meet their goal of raising $6,000.

On Walkathon day, kids in grades K-1 and 2-5 will each walk for an hour and will be cheered on by a special guest–former UW track star Katie Follett, who’s currently training for the Olympics.

Friends of McDonald School Need Volunteers

The new play structure has been delivered to McDonald School at 54th and Latona and is anxiously awaiting its installation.  The Friends of McDonald School are in need of volunteers to assist in the installation process during the weekend of Friday, September 24th-Monday, September 27th.  With the help of volunteers the new play structure will be complete and ready for inspection.

This project has been funded by the City of Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund, King County Youth Sports Facilities Grant Program, and donations from neighboring individuals.

In more McDonald School news, there’s a new play structure on the way (or, in the modern lingo, “playscape”). Project Coordinator Kathleen Ellsbury writes:

Looks like we’ll have a new play structure at McDonald School before long! With funds from the neighborhood, some employers, King County Youth Sports Facilities Grant program, and the City of Seattle’s neighborhood Matching Fund, we will be able to prepare for and install the structure below, as well as a concrete border and two concrete disability-compatible ramps.

On Tuesday, June 15, parents and incoming students of the McDonald School will have a chance to meet the teachers.  The newly-formed McDonald School PTA is hosting an ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. on the McDonald School playground at 54th and Latona.

This is an exciting time for the parents and children who are attending McDonald School Elementary next fall.  If you’re a parent of an incoming student, now is the time to start thinking about your involvement with the school.  Parents are invited to join–and lead–the PTA for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year.

As a former board member for the PTSA at B.F. Day, I can attest that it’s a rewarding experience, and the only way to develop high quality enrichment programs for the school–from things like bicycle rodeos to the Science on Wheels coming to school, for example.  These are …
