Mark your calendar for May 31st! Historic Wallingford is partnering with the Wallingford Center to host a home maintenance and improvement fair at the Wallingford Center on May 31st from 10-3pm that is free to visitors. Wallingford is home to one of the largest collections of early twentieth century residences in the city. The intent of the fair is to offer resources to steward these cherished homes while supporting the historic fabric of this community for all to enjoy.
Experience history as you take a walk through the landmarked Wallingford Center, which is a fabulous example of adaptive reuse of a surplus school building. The Wallingford Center is the former Interlake Elementary School and was built in 1904. While you are moving through the halls, visit the variety of home care vendors to learn more about maintaining and updating vintage houses, with resources for kitchen and bath improvements from Luna Kitchen and Bath, or updating your landscape with Vertumni. Chat about financing with Verity Credit Union or Key Bank for your maintenance project, remodel, or ADU/DADU addition to your property. Learn about requirements for your project with staff from the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections. Contemplating a watercolor commission to document your home? Artist Melinda Hannah will be participating in the fair. Shown is a painting of a local Wallingford house by Melinda.
Vendors for windows, plumbing, contractors, foundation care, painters, electricians, HVAC, and more are on the list to be signed up. If you are interested in participating as a contractor, please make contact at [email protected]. A brochure containing contact information for all vendors and speaker participants, as well as a history of the Wallingford Center and Historic Wallingford, will be distributed at the fair.
Melinda is preparing a watercolor sketch of Tweedy and Popp Hardware. The Tweedy and Popp business has been a part of Wallingford since 1920, and will be honored as a legacy business with a noon presentation of the framed watercolor as commemoration of their contributions to Wallingford. Join us then to thank Tweedy and Popp for being there through thick and thin! Pictured is Tweedy and Popp now compared to the 1920s.
Two or three speaker panels will be offered. Two groups are confirmed: Sarah J. Martin of Sarah J. Martin Cultural Services will discuss the variety of vintage homes styles found in Wallingford and the characteristics that are unique to each style. Donna and Kirk Gronvold from Blue Water Design Build will be discussing updating the interior or your home while maintaining historic characteristics on the exterior. A third presentation is in the works discussing ongoing maintenance tasks and schedules.
