Wallingford has a new contender for the best burrito in town, and it’s not where you might expect. Nestled into the corner of a Shell gas station parking lot at NE 45th Street and Thackeray Place NE, Taqueria Juarez is serving up some seriously delicious Mexican fare. Even with Chipotle setting up shop in the former Taco Time space just up the street, this food truck is proving that a great meal doesn’t have to come from a national chain, or even a brick and mortar restaurant.
The menu at Taqueria Juarez is impressive, offering everything from tacos to quesadillas to burritos…and even Greek fries with garlic sauce and feta cheese. There are a few parking spots available (though the Shell station may not appreciate long visitors), a bit of makeshift outdoor seating, and perhaps, most importantly, some of the friendliest folks you’ll meet serving up your meal. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to become a regular from your first visit.
Inspired by my husband’s enthusiasm, I decided to branch out from my usual “whatever is in the refrigerator” lunch, and I walked over and ordered a Torta Asada. I was not disappointed. Packed with flavorful grilled steak, ample heaps of avocado, and all the right toppings, this sandwich was a feast. And when I say feast, I mean it—the portion was so generous that I ended up making four meals out of it!
If you’re after a quick bite with bold flavors, a solid burrito, or a generously portioned meal, and dine-in ambiance isn’t a requirement, Taqueria Juarez is a great spot to check out in the neighborhood.
