If you were wondering, “Gee, I sure wish I could make my December even more Merry AND Gay,” than worry not, Fine Friends! A holiday tradition that has danced, caroled, and brightened up the stage at Capitol Hill’s West Hall for years is moving just down the street for this December. That’s right, legendary queer holiday show Jingle All The Gay is happening next door at The Neptune in the U District!
“What is this hullabaloo?” you might ask, and I’d say: First, nice word choice there, and second, Jingle all the Gay is a long-running holiday cabaret show, Very Very Gay, and a frolicking good time filled with singing, comedy, and dancing, including burlesque. (Some performers are very flexible!)
Here’s their blurb for more info:
Seattle, REJOICE! Your beloved holigay tradition returns to the Pacific Northwest for THREE NIGHTS ONLY! After 15 years at their treasured West Hall, Kitten N’ Lou are thrilled to usher in a bombastic new chapter of this iconic production at the glorious and historic Neptune Theatre!
JINGLE ALL THE GAY promises to deliver up a heaping helping of comfort and joy at a time when we need it most…laugh, cry and revel in the power of live theater! This deliciously queer and delectably extravagant confection is guaranteed to make even the most stubborn yuletides gay…join this all-star cast of fabulous fruitcakes in an unforgettable celebration of holiday hilarity and chosen family in its brand new home. “Continues to spark joy every season!” (The Stranger)
Long-timers for this show may remember its previous name and incarnation of “Homo for the Holidays,” which co-starred the always delightful BenDeLaCreme (Seattle drag royalty). No worries for DeLa fans as she also has an upcoming show with the always radiant Jinx Monsoon later in December at the Moore downtown. (Sidenote, for folks interested in DeLa and Jinx’s show, but can’t make it to the live performance, you can rent an earlier year’s show. It’s fabulous!)
It’s exciting to have such a bright holiday tradition as Jingle All the Gay closer to our neighborhood—makes for a fun jaunt on the 44 to have a very merry and wonderfully Gay good time at the theater.
For those wondering:
Is this kind of a…sexy show? Should I bring my kids?
The theater site says “all ages” but truly only you know your child’s readiness to appreciate comedy, burlesque, puns, and pasties. (Not the handpie kind from Cornwall.) Past shows had some saucy numbers—geared to all and every orientation!
I hear Jesus is part of the show?
Yes, Jesus is a regular to this show, and one of my fave characters. Always great to see Jesus pop up! Often there’s a nice heart-to-heart with Jesus’ parent, which I found always very meaningful in past shows, but that’s just me.
How go I get to the Neptune?
It’s just down 45th at the corner of University Way NE. You have gone too far if you pass the Ave.
Shows are only Dec. 13, 14, and 15 this year, so if you want to join the fun Holiday Gaiety, you can buy tickets here, and hey, maybe I’ll see you on the 44 on the way to the show!
