Wallingford neighbors concluded Veterans Day weekend with an unsettling experience on Ashworth Avenue North, between 41st and 42nd streets. People in the neighborhood reported that round 8:15 PM, a black SUV drove by and fired 4-6 rounds of gun fire into the air. This left many with the familiar hope that it was just fireworks, but the arrival of police officers confirmed otherwise – they found shell casings on the ground.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, but it was a frightening experience for all, including children who were extremely close to the incident. The reason for this action and location remains unclear. Following the incident, neighbors gathered in the street to process — everyone was understandably shocked and scared.
We’re grateful that it didn’t escalate further, but it’s a reminder that we all need to stay vigilant and watch out for one another. If anyone has any information about what happened, please reach out to the authorities.
Let’s continue to look out for each other. Stay alert, stay connected, and work together to keep our community safe.

There were six rapid gunshots around then at 36th & Woodlawn, too. Sounded like the car was going north.
I'm not sure why anyone thought the gun was fired in the air. Some neighbors report two cars and some tires squealing. This sounds like one car hunting another. Several neighbors report hearing several shots fired at a distance (perhaps 36th & Woodlawn as mentioned in the other comment) several minutes before the incident between 41st & 42nd.
More excitement than we wished for.
