This post comes to Wallyhood from Ari Hock, postdoc SUNY Buffalo Institute for Learning Sciences. Ari produced a film “Visions of Wallingford” in 2023 as part of his studies in the doctoral program in the Department Education at the University of Washington. Wallyhood covered a screening of this film found here from March, 2023.
Ari reached out regarding his Visions of Wallingford: “I wanted to give you a heads up that Visions of Wallingford is going to be screened during the Northwest Film Forum’s Local Sightings film festival on 9/28. It’s part of the closing night festivities, which is themed around Seattle of the Future. “
The Local Sightings Film Festival describes Hock’s Visions of Wallingford as follows.

Residents of Wallingford, a gentrifying and predominantly white Seattle neighborhood, film each other as they lead walking tours and ponder their neighborhood’s future. Along the way, they meet Native elders, urbanist advocates, and unhoused neighbors who challenge their views on the house crisis.
For those of us who live in Wallingford, this is a good reminder that we should have a voice in the future of our beloved community and step up to be involved in the many activities currently on-going that will affect how Wallingford appears and functions—what is your vision of Wallingford?
Check out the list of ongoing activities such as the review of the Comprehensive Plan aka One Seattle 2044 the city is preparing for growth through the next 20 years, and the current issue of placement of a Lincoln High School athletic field, potentially in one of Wallingford’s two community parks, Wallingford Playfield or Meridian Park. The Wallingford Community Council has information about how you can learn more and get involved at this link: https://www.wallingfordcc.org/
Your involvement is essential—please get involved, can be as easy as helping in the neighborhood cleanup!
