Hello Wallingford neighborhood, as summer has turned into fall, I would like to let the community know of an upcoming fun event in the University District. As beautiful as the cherry blossoms are in spring, the return of UW students coincides with the U District Chow Down.
The 4th Annual U District Chow Down & Street Party on the Ave below 45th St is once again set to take over Seattle’s University District on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 11am to 8pm. With over 60 restaurants offering an array of $5 bites, visitors will have a chance to fill their plates while taking in live music, competing for prizes, and cheering on the UW Alumni Husky Marching Band in Seattle’s most vibrant neighborhood–the U District!

As hungry participants from Lynnwood to Sea-Tac ascend from the U District Station, they will be greeted by an outdoor street party featuring over 60 U District restaurants serving $5 menu items across the neighborhood.
The nearby Chow Down Main Stage will feature hours of entertainment including music by the Garfield High School and Rainbow City Jazz Bands. This year, attendees will be able to stay for an afterparty on NE 42nd Street where they will enjoy live music by Reposado and more. “Fall brings a special energy to Seattle with the return of Husky Football, students headed back to classes and the changing color of beautiful trees on the UW campus,” says Don Blakeney, the Executive Director of The U District Partnership. “We invite everyone in Seattle to put down their pumpkin spice latte and make a new fall tradition here in the U District!” This event is produced by The U District Partnership who brings together local eateries, entertainers, and businesses to create a fun day in the U District for the entire city.
Some of this year’s highlights include:
- Over 120 featured $5 bites across the neighborhood
- Audience competitions like a hot dog-eating contest and bobbing-for-boba
- Beer and cocktail lounges from Shultzy’s, Big Time, and Earl’s on the Ave
- A pop-up mocktail lounge on the Ave hosted by The Mountaineering Club
- Chef demo with Emme Collins, coffee demo with Clinton Chambers, and cocktail demo with Bryce Tomberlin
- Live music on the main stage from UW Alumni Husky Marching Band, Rainbow City Jazz, and more!
