Wallingford’s own Solid Ground is celebrating 50 years of life-changing work with a Day of Service at five sites across Seattle on Friday, August 23, from 9am-noon. Roll up your sleeves and join more than 300 members of the Solid Ground community to plant and tend to garden beds, beautify parks, clean up our ACCESS bus fleet, and more!
Projects take place at the following Solid Ground sites and Seattle neighborhood parks:
- Magnuson Park Cleanup(Sand Point)
- Wallingford Playfield Park Cleanup(Wallingford)
- Burke-Gilman Trail Cleanup(Fremont)
- Marra Farm Giving Garden Work Party(South Park)
- Transportation ACCESS Fleet Cleanup(South Park)
Specific to the Fremont Location: Solid Ground started in 1974 as the Fremont Public Association in response to growing economic desperation in the Fremont neighborhood. While our footprint has expanded to the greater Seattle area and King County, our connection to Fremont remains strong. We’ll meet near the Fremont Canal Park for coffee and pastries and then get to work cleaning the park. Seattle Parks and Recreation will have all the tools and instructions we need to complete our job.
70 volunteers max
Specific to the Wallingford Playfield Park Cleanup: Since 1998, Solid Ground’s administrative offices have been located in Wallingford. We share the first floor with FamilyWorks and The Seattle Public Library, while the top two floors house offices for administrative, case management, and advocacy staff. We’ll meet at the Wallingford Offices (1501 N 45th St, Seattle WA 98103) for coffee and pastries, the head to the Wallingford Playfield. All tools and instructions will be provided by Seattle Parks and Recreation.
30 volunteers max
Pre-registration closes on Weds, 08/21. For further information, visit [email protected]
Solid Ground is celebrating a half century of progress toward solving poverty. It’s a time to reflect on more than a million success stories – and on the staff, volunteers, and supporters who helped build a community where all of our neighbors can thrive. They hope you’ll join them throughout 2024 to honor their roots and look toward a transformative vision for our community’s future.
That is so wonderful. They make such a difference to so many people. I think if they could adopt the bus stop in front of their building it would be great year-round project.
