Historic Wallingford is pleased to announce its third annual self-guided exploration of the neighborhood called Exploring Wallingford. The activity features more than 25 natural, historical, and artistic points of interest in Lower Wallingford, south of 40th Street and extending to the Lake Union shoreline. It spotlights the area’s Indigenous tradition, industrial landscape, popularly styled early 20th-century buildings, as well as artistic and natural sensory delights.
You are invited to pick up a free brochure at the Wallingford Branch Library or one of these sponsor locations between August 1st and September 15th:
J A S Design Build-3600 Wallingford Ave. N.
Cascadia Pharmacy Wallingford-1815 N. 45th St. #110
Ivar’s Salmon House-401 NE Northlake Way
Kidd Valley-4910 Green Lake Way N
Luna Kitchen & Bath-2408 N. 45th St. Suite 1
The rich, colorful brochure highlights 16 natural, historical, and artistic points of interest in Lower Wallingford. A QR code in the brochure links to an interactive map with more information about each feature and additional points of interest. The brochure and interactive map are also available online at HistoricWallingford.org/explore2024.
The brochure, designed by Linda Sewell of InHouse Design, and compiled by a team of volunteers, encourages participants to explore the neighborhood highlights in any order and at any pace. The hope is participants will take their time and experience Wallingford in a new way.
“Lower Wallingford is chock full of interesting stories and characters. We showcase a small sampling of Wallingford’s past and present through this activity”, said Sarah Martin, who managed the volunteer effort to produce the brochure and interactive map on behalf of Historic Wallingford. Historic Wallingford has produced Exploring Wallingford guides for other parts of the neighborhood, including North Wallingford in 2022 and Wallingford Hill in 2023. The organization is grateful for the continued support of 4Culture, which partially supports this project through their efforts to provide arts and culture funding throughout King County.
