The Wallingford Community Council, WCC, has long been an advocate for the community of Wallingford. Let’s give them lots of credit for slogging through the difficulties of Covid and demands of accurately sharing information about potential changes to the neighborhood as Seattle grows. Currently, information about the One Seattle Comprehensive Draft Plan, plans for development in the city for the next twenty years, has highest priority. Here is the link to the One Seattle Plan. The comment period has been extended to May 20th, 2024.
WCC held elections for the 2024-2025 board on May 8th at the Chapel in the Good Shepherd Center. Much appreciation was given to Miranda Berner, the outgoing President for her diligence and competence in leading this organization. Miranda passed on a thought shared by retired Supreme Court Justice, Stephen Breyer. “Public life supports the experiment of democracy”. Miranda urged all Wallingford residents to get involved, including the local grassroots efforts found in a community council.
Here are the results of the election for 2024-2025 board for the Wallingford Community Council:
- President, Bonnie Williams
- Vice President, Kristin Misner-Gutierez
- Treasurer, Mark JoHanson
- Secretary, Ted Hunter
- At Large, Margaret Holt
- At Large, Mary Hodder
- At Large, Matt Hallett
We appreciate these people taking time out of their busy lives to continue the efforts of the Wallingford Community Council.
The featured speaker for the gathering on May 8th was City Councilmember, Tanya Woo, Position 8-Citywide. Councilmember Woo was generous with her time and fielded a wide variety of questions ranging from the need for protection from shading of solar panels on private homes in the Comp Plan, the need for oversite of development projects, to a question about the appropriate site for the light rail stop near the Chinatown International District. In the City Council, her committee’s efforts center on safety, housing, and business development. She shared her Wallingford connection—her family owned the beloved Moon Temple Chinese restaurant that closed when the building containing CVS was redeveloped. Councilmember Woo was appointed to her position after a former City of Seattle Council member was elected to the King County Council. She will be running for election again this fall—and she is accepting Democracy Vouchers!

Thank you for sharing information about Wallingford Community Council. The best advocacy for any community starts at the local level and we are fortunate to have our own council as a place to stay in the “know” of the happenings in Wallingford. Thank you WallyHood for keeping all of us who do not attend the meetings informed as well. This is a real team effort of volunteers.
