Mark Your Calendars: Wallingford Neighborhood Cleanup on April 20
The bi-annual Wallingford Earth Day family-friendly neighborhood cleanup event is coming up on Saturday, April 20. This event is a great way to show pride in the neighborhood, meet your neighbors and volunteer on Earth Day!
This years’ event will go from 10am to 1pm. Volunteers should meet at the South East corner of 45th and Wallingford by the Animal Storm Sculpture. Please RSVP by sending an email to [email protected]. This is not required but will help the organizers plan for the number of people. In the past few years, the event has drawn between 30 and 60 people.
Each volunteer will be given a safety vest, gloves, a trash grabber and garbage bags.
Another article will be published the week before the event to remind everyone and add any last minute details.
Year Round Volunteer Opportunity
For neighbors who want to participate on their own time throughout the year, the organizers are making it very easy to join the Seattle Public Utilities Adopt a Street program. Adopt a Street is a great way to keep our neighborhood beautiful and go for a nice walk. Once you have collected a bag of trash, SPU will pick it up or you can drop it off at any of the black trash cans along 45th. These are usually paired with a blue recycling bin.
Our own “Wallyhood” Adopt a Street group has been at it for a few weeks and the feedback has been great!
- Send an email to [email protected] and we’ll add you to an existing group or show up to the Earth Day event and we can add you then! You can also Sign up with SPU Adopt a Street for your very own group.
- You can pick up supplies at the April 20th Wallingford event or you can Request Supplies from SPU. Let SPU know what you need to clean up safely, and they’ll provide it for free. The University Customer Service Center on University Way is an option for picking up supplies. (It is on the Ave, between 45th & 47th st)
- Report your cleanup! Each time you go out to clean up, please report it to SPU.
