Those of you who inhabit or pass through Middle Wallingford—which I loosely define in my admittedly subjective conceptual view of the neighborhood—know that the area around Bagley and 43rd has experienced a substantial construction project for a lengthy period of time. What’s the story with this, and when will it be completed? Wallingford resident Darrell Bulmer, who works for Seattle Department of Transportation and in fact lives in the construction zone, connected me with the Seattle Public Utilities project manager for the work, Ian Fitz-James.
Ian provided a detailed description and update for the project, which is nearing completion:
…the water main replacement project in N 43rd St between Meridian Ave N and east of Bagley Ave N. Generally, the project is replacing old water main with a new 8” water main, installing new service lines, and two new fire hydrants. Right of way restoration includes new sidewalk, curb, curb ramps, and traffic circles at both intersections, new pavement where the water main was installed, and minor storm drainage improvements. Attached is the flyer we sent out to impacted residents describing the project prior to starting.
(Editor’s note: this is attached to this article below)
Utility work is complete. Right of way restoration for this project is ongoing and should be substantially complete by the end of March. The right of way restoration involves a lot of concrete installation which needs suitable (dry) weather to occur. If rain or cold temperatures interfere with the restoration schedule, the project could extend into April.
For the inconvenienced residents around the construction area, relief is in sight! Now, if we can only get lower Stone Way opened up again…
(Thanks to Darrell and Ian for filling us in on the details for this project!)
