Wallingford welcomes Gregory Allison & Slow Meadow, two neoclassical musicians who will perform at the Good Shepherd Center on April 5th, 2024 at 8pm.
This performance is part of their 2024 spring tour presented by Holy Volcano, a record label, studio, and collective started by Allison in Los Angeles. This performance is part of a series of concerts curated by Nonsequitur, highlighting adventurous and experimental music.
Gregory Allison blends his classical sensibility as a film composer with improvisation inspired by South Indian Classical music, using a single violin. He will be accompanied by a string trio in this performance of his 2021 debut album Portal and some new compositions to be revealed. Slow Meadow is Houston multi-instrumentalist Matt Kidd, who pushes the boundaries of minimalist electronic and classical music to deliver a deeply transformative experience. His newest album Upstream Dream begs the listener to embody mindfulness, reflection, and imagination.
I listened to music from both of these artists before (and during) writing this release. As someone who gravitates to atmospheric and ambient music, I thoroughly enjoyed the process of discovering their deeply resonant work and am excited to see them perform. Both of them deliver otherworldly experiences in different ways. Gregory Allison creates an energized journey of textured variety with his violin, while Slow Meadow’s music seemed to envelop me in this audible balance of gentle melancholy and soft optimism. It’s definitely music to slow down to, which I appreciate very much in the overstimulating nature of my current daily routine.
Doors open at 7pm on Friday, April 5th. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $30 for reserved seating. Get your tickets here!
