An “early design guidance meeting” for the building proposed on the former site of the Guild 45th Theater has been scheduled for February 26. To hear a presentation on building design from the developer and comment on the proposal, go to this link or call 206.207.1700 on Monday at 5pm. The access code is 2494 358 9014.
You can also go here to make public comments on the design until Friday, February 23.
The project developer, Seattle architecture firm Clark Barnes, has provided a comprehensive document outlining the three design proposals. They describe the project as a five-story mixed use building with 80 residential units and no parking. The Clark Barnes website has several examples of other mixed-use buildings they’ve developed in the Seattle area, some more interesting than others.
Since this location is really at the heart of the Wallingford neighborhood, it would be nice to see something besides the cookie-cutter designs (fake balconies!) that have popped up around town in recent years. Some early respondents have encouraged “design that recognizes the site’s history such as art deco characteristics or neon signage and lighting as a tribute to the Guild 45th Theater.” If you agree, or have other interesting ideas, make your voice heard online by Friday or at the public meeting on Monday.
